Lady Aces Lose Late To Cisne

The MTC Lady Aces hosted Cisne on Monday night. The Varisty team had a bit of a roller coaster evening. They started out on the low side with Cisne up for much of the first set losing 17-25, but the second set was flipped with the Aces wining 25-20. The third set the Aces came out fired up and we had a 8-0 lead. The Aces made it to 15 first, but it was a 3rd set to 25 this time. Cisne dug in and took the lead a 21, winning 21-25. It was hard for the team to lose a match when they were up by that margin, but the Aces strung together to many errors at the end.  Maycee Randall led with 8 kills.

Stats for the night were Mattie Armstrong 1 ace, 1 kill, 8 assists, 14 digs,  Jayla Johnson 3 digs, 3

Player stats Leah Lewis 3 aces, 1 dig, Avery Coston 3 kills, Gracee Haggard, 2 digs, 8 kills, Mylee Farmer 3 digs, Mercedes Dillard 3 digs, 1 ace, Quincy Keepes 1 ace, 22 assists, 1 dig, 2 kills, Journey Loudermilk 2 kills, Riley Gill 4 digs, Leila Sweeney 1 dig,  Addison Mobley 2 kills.

Jr Lady Aces Come Back To Defeat New Hope

What started out as a slow performance by the Jr Lady Aces turned in to an exciting win to knock off the undefeated New Hope Lady Panthers 13-5 on Monday evening.

New Hope jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a few fielding errors and a rough 3 innings at the plate for the Aces before the bats came alive.

The Jr Aces scored 1 run in the 4th on a single by Aveah Miller who scored on a triple from Addi Carmickle.

After a scoreless 5th inning, the Jr Aces started the 6th inning with a quick 2 outs before loading the bases on singles by Alyvia Toutloff and Olivia Wall followed by a walk to Lexi Sisson. Willow Gayer then drove in all 3 runs with a hit to right field.

The inning continued with a single by TaeLynn Wade to left field and a 2-run double to center field by Harper Warnken. Aveah Miller followed next with a single and Warnken scored on Addi Carmickle’s hit to make the score 8-5.

After getting a quick 3 outs, the Aces headed back to the plate, where they had a base hit by Jennah Lewis, Olivia Wall reached on a fielders choice, Lexi Sisson bunted and reached on an error and a fielders choice by Willow Gayer puts 2 runners on when Harper Warnken hit a single and scored those two runs. Addi Carmickle hit a triple to knock home Warnken and make the score 13-5 before going to the bottom of the 7th. After holding the Panthers scoreless in that half-inning, the Jr Lady Aces got the win and improved their record to 14-2.

Harper Warnken earned the win on the mound for the Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking two.

Soccer Aces Lose To Harrisburg

From Coach Ed Berberich: The Soccer Aces were back at home Saturday hosting the Harrisburg Bulldogs, a game they would end up losing 7-2 despite putting up a strong fight. The Bulldogs scored first in the 5th minute, but the Aces got the equalizer 14 minutes later when Ty Hipsher slotted a free kick into goal from approximately 35 yards out. Harrisburg would regain the lead 8 minutes later and the half almost ended with the Aces down just 1, but the Bulldogs were able to get their 3rd goal with 30 seconds left in the 1st half to make it 1-3. The Aces then pulled back within 1 goal 5 minutes into the 2nd half when Wyatt Howder scored on an assist from Wyatt Rooney to make it 2-3. Harrisburg secured a little bit of breathing room when they scored in the 52nd minute to put the score at 2-4. That's how the game remained until the Bulldogs scored 3 goals late to finish it off with the 2-7 final score. For the match the Aces took 7 shots on goal, 4 on frame, they had 3 chances created & 4 interceptions. Michael Read had 8 saves in goal. Harrisburg took 18 shots on goal, 10 on frame.

The guys played their best match of the season before starting to wear down midway through the 2nd half. This was a conditioning loss for us, as we were in this game until we ran out of gas in the 2nd. We've had some injuries & sicknesses hit us in the past couple games. The we lost another player for the match in the 1st half, but these things happen & it just drives home how important the summer conditioning program is. When you start losing players for whatever reason then the ones still standing need to be able to play all 80 minutes if need be. Some of the guys can do it but we're not all there yet, so we're still playing ourselves into shape overall. But outside of all that, we coaches were really proud of the way the guys played today. Most of the team is still new to the sport but they're starting to show some development in key areas...now we just need to keep that up while working on our chemistry together. In the past 2 games they bounced back from a poor showing against Robinson last week, and in this game in particular they really started to show some of things we've been working on.

The Aces will be back on home on Monday evening, hosting Robinson at 4:30 pm.

Lady Aces take down Lady Lions in LIC opener

The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces traveled to Marshall to start off their LIC conference season Thursday night.  The Aces started the first set in a bit of serve receive trouble, but they got on a roll with some aggressive ace serving by Lyla Keepes. They took the lead and never looked back. The team started playing with great momentum winning 25-18.  Maycee Randall, and Jayla Johnson led the team in kills. The second set we got down by 5 quick, but scrappy defense by Mattie Armstrong, aggressive swinging, and a long 10 point serving run sprinkled with aces by Gabby Schneider heavily outmatched the Lions. The Aces took the second set 25-12.

Stats for the night were Mattie Armstrong 1 ace, 7 assists, 9 digs,  Jayla Johnson 3 digs, 6

kills, 6 digs, Maycee Randall, 1 ace, 4 kills, 1 dig, 3 assists, Tenley Davis 1 ace, 4 digs, 4 assists, Lyla Keepes 4 aces, 3 kills, 5 digs, 1 block, 1 assist, Kyleigh Smith 4 kills, 1 block. Tensley Dunlap  4 kills, 1 block, Avery Coston 2 kills, 2 digs, Gabby Schneider 3 aces, 8 assist, 2 digs.

The JV team struggled with attacking errors the first set losing 21-25. The second set Riley Gill had a huge serving run with 9 in a row. We were up 15  to 8 at one point, but we started playing tight tipping to much, and Marshall kept slowing creeping back up for the win 23-25.

Player stats Leah Lewis 6 digs, 2 kills, Tensley Dunlap, 3 kills, 1 block, Gabby Schneider 3 digs, 7 assists, Avery Coston 1 ace, 1 dig, 3 kills, 2 blocks, Mylee Farmer 2 digs, Mercedes Dillard 4 digs, 1 ace, Quincy Keepes 2 kills, 5 assists,  Journey Loudermilk 3 kills, Riley Gill 4 digs, Leila Sweeney 2 digs, Addison Mobley 1 dig.

Soccer Aces Fall To Mt. Vernon

From Coach Ed Berberich: The soccer Aces continued with a tough stretch of games, traveling to Mt Vernon and losing 7-0. The Rams scored 3 goals in what was a fairly closely contested first half, but then added 4 in the 2nd to come away with the win.

I've said this about multiple games so far this year but this was another match where the final score doesn't tell the whole story. Outside of the Robinson match we've come out with energy & effort in these games & usually play a solid 1st half against what have been some good teams. It's usually the 2nd halves that are killing us because we're just wearing down as these games go on. With very few subs for every game this year, usually just 2 or 3, we're asking a lot of these guys out there. The teams we've played have been better than us, as we're still inexperienced & learning, but we've made them earn it. We just don't have the stamina & the bodies yet to be able to do that for the whole match. If we keep playing with effort in practices and games we should keep improving. As our conditioning gets better & we start getting some more players available we hope to be able to go further in these games.

The Aces only get 1 night off before they're back at it, playing Harrisburg at home on Saturday at 11 am.

Coaches Comments: The Lady Aces played their 3rd match this week, all on the road. The endurance it takes to attend school and play afternoon golf is incredible. I am so impressed with these girls for their grit and determination to play great golf EVERY time they get on the course. As their coach I am excited to continue to assist them and watch as they continue to  get better each and every match/tournament. I am proud that I have played a role in their golf careers. We have 10 girls on the team and all of them are great golfers, however we can only play 6 at most tournaments.

This week isn't over yet, as the girls travel to Benton Thursday September 11th,  for an 18 hole tournament. We are now 41-0 this season.
