Lady Aces Move Up To #4 In Class 2A; Play Regular Season Finale Today At 4pm

The Lady Aces are now ranked 4th in Class 2A. They host Mt. Vernon, IN at the 4th Street Ballpark at 4pm today in the last regular season game of the year before opening regional next Tuesday in Harrisburg.

The SIJHSAA State Golf Tournament was held on May 10, at the Rend Lake Golf Course. The participants were the top golfers from 3 Regionals held in April throughout Southern Illinois. MCJHS had 4 girls advance from the Benton Regional held on April 26th to the State Tournament. This tournament is set up for individuals and does not have a team winner.

Coaches Comments: " What a great way to end the Inaugural year of MCJHS Girls Golf! I am so proud of these young ladies and especially  Miley Kennard, our STATE CHAMPION! She has set the bar high for future Jr. Lady Aces with her +3, 75. Miley has been golfing for several years and has earned her place in school history as the first Individual State Champion in girls golf. Not far behind her was Zeme Moore in 3rd place with her very impressive 91. Our final medal winner was Elyse Swanson, placing 11th with her 104. These three girls along with Ava Brumagin will join the MCHS Lady Aces in the fall. I am so excited to add these powerful golfers to our team! We are truly blessed with Amazing young ladies who love the game of golf. I am in awe of their dedication and determination to be a part of this team and the goals these girls set is evident in how they play! Congratulations to these young ladies and their families! Lady Aces Track Compete At Newton Invite


The MCHS Lady Aces track team participated in the Newton Lady Eagle Invitational Monday. The Lady Aces placed 9th out of 11 teams.

Leading the way for the Lady Aces were 2nd and 3rd place finishes by Eden Wankel and Madi Stevens in the high jump. Both jumped 1.47 meters to earn medalist honors.

Also scoring for the Lady Aces were Lily Keepes 5th in the 1600 meter run, Eden Wankel 6th in the long jump, and the 4x800 relay team comprised of Annie Lin, Molly Hagerty, Kali Walker and Lily Keepes who finished 5th.

The Lady Aces next meet is Wednesday at the LIC Conference meet hosted by Casey-Westfield.

Mt. Carmel had two first place finishes receiving medals were: Leah Lewis in discus with a throw of 90’5”. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Elyse Swanson, Sadie Klaus, Ava Brummagin, and Lyla Keepes ran a time of  56.34 . 

 

Second place finishers Elyse Swanson in the 8th grade 100m dash ran a time of 14.14, and Lyla Keepes in the 400m run in a time of 1:07.7

 

Third place finisher Elyse Swanson ran the 200m dash with a time of 29.24. 

 

Fourth place finishers E. Swanson long jump 14’4’.

Lady Aces Stay Unbeaten By Holding Off #1 Casey, 6-5

In perhaps the biggest regular season game in Lady Aces softball history, Mt. Carmel held off previously undefeated Casey-Westfield, 6-5. The Little Illini Conference showdown featured the two best teams as Casey came in at 24-0 and ranked #1 in Class 1A. Meanwhile, the Lady Aces sported a spotless 13-0 record and ranked 6th in Class 2A.

And it came down to a play at the plate to win the game as Emma Banks gunned down pinch runner Kenzi Babbs to catcher Hailey Lang who applied the tag and end the game.

Short Handed Lady Aces Track Run Well At Red Hill

The Lady Aces track team traveled to Bridgeport Monday for a triangular meet with Red Hill and Lawrenceville. Because of muddy conditions, there were no field events.

These four young ladies made school history today as the MCJHS Inagural Girls Golf team. They played at the Benton Regional, one of three Regionals held today.  The top 10 girls out of each Regional advance to the SIJHSAA State Tournament, May 10th at Rend Lake Golf Course. Miley Kennard set the school re try for lowest score in a 9 hole tournament. All four girls set the lowest 9 hole team score at 183.
