Masks Temporarily Required For IHSA Indoor Sports

On August 4, 2021, Governor Pritzker announced an update to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) All-Sports Policy that will require masks to be worn for all indoor IHSA athletic events regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. This mask directive for indoor athletic events applies to student-athletes, coaches, officials, game personnel, and fans.

This masking mandate applies to all IHSA fall sport practices and contests that are conducted indoors. Swimmers and divers do not have to wear masks while competing, but must adhere at all other times. The masking directive also applies to any winter or spring IHSA sports that may be conducting open gyms, general conditioning, or weightlifting indoors.

There are no restrictions to scheduling or spectator limitations as a result of today’s announcement, nor are there any changes to the IHSA calendar for any sports.

“Today’s announcement will not deter us from our mission of safely offering high school student-athletes in Illinois the opportunity to participate in sports and activities,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “Illinois high school student-athletes and coaches have been resilient in dealing with myriad mitigations and unexpected changes over the past year. We hope all Illinoisans do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 so we can quickly move beyond this and remove masks from indoor athletic events.”

Committee Explores MCHS Sports Hall Of Fame

A committee is exploring the possibility of establishing a sports hall of fame at Mt. Carmel High School. At this week’s District #348 school board meeting, board member Kyle Peach said he had been asked by the sports boosters to be a part of the committee that is tasked with how a hall of fame at the high school would look and the various factors that would be considered…

KYLE PEACH ON HALL OF FAME

Peach said the committee has gotten input from the MCHS Alumni Foundation which has its’ own Hall of Fame. He also said if the hall of fame is established, an interactive display may be installed to help better tell the story of the hall of fame inductees.

School Board Approves Expanding Junior High Sports

After a three month wait, supporters of junior high baseball and softball got the official approval last night to start the programs in District #348. But in addition to softball and baseball, Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer said junior high cross country was also being added with help from the district….

Bleyer said all other expenses, including transportation, would be paid for by the district. The new sports are expected to begin competing starting with the upcoming school year.

IHSA Sports Open Up Further As State Moves To Phase 5

The state of Illinois moved to Phase 5 as a part of the Restore Illinois pandemic relief plan on June 11, 2021. As a result of the move to Phase 5, many IHSA sports and activities have greater autonomy in scheduling, as well as in hosting fans. Some highlights of the move to Phase 5 include…

  • All IHSA sports can now schedule contests/meets with and against any other high school in the state, as well as with out-of-state opponents.

  • There are no longer any spectator limitations. All IHSA host venues, indoor and outdoor, may host fans at 100% capacity.

  • Masks are no longer required for student-athletes, coaches, and officials in low- and medium-risk outdoor sports.

In order to help with social distancing and limit gatherings, the IHSA is utilizing digital ticketing at all remaining Super-Sectional and State Final venues for the remainder of the 2021 school year. GoFan is the official digital ticketing partner of the IHSA. Fans can purchase Super-Sectional and State Final tickets via the GoFan app or at GoFan.co/IHSA

The IHSA Girls and Boys Track & Field State Finals will employ Eastern Illinois University’s internal digital ticketing platform. State track & field tickets are available for purchase by clicking here.

More information can be found on the IHSA's COVID-19 resource page.

Mt. Carmel's Norrick To Play In ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL SHRINE GAME SET FOR JUNE 19TH

NOTE: Mt. Carmel’s Caleb Norrick has been named to the Red team as an outside linebacker.

Bloomington, IL – The Illinois Coaches Association and the Shriners of Illinois will host the 47th annual Illinois High School Shrine Game on June 19th at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. Kick-off for the 47th annual game is scheduled for Saturday, June 19th at 11:00a.m.  The pregame festivities will begin at the stadium starting at 10am.  One hundred six of the state’s best football players participate in this all-star game to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children, the official philanthropy of Shriners International. More information about scheduled events, along with rosters for both the Red and Blue teams, can be found at www.ilshrinegame.com.   Admission for this All Star Game is $10 and can be purchased at the gate.

Each year at the Shrine Game, two patients from the Shiners Hospital for Children are chosen to be the prince and princess. The princess is Hadley Holmes from Marion who is a patient at the Shriners Hospital in St Louis. The prince is Tim Bannon from Chicago who is a patient at the Shriners Hospital in Chicago. The prince and princess are honorary representatives from each hospital that will benefit from the money raised through the game. We weren’t able to have last year’s event, but we still raised nearly $20,000 that went directly to providing outstanding medical care for children at the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Our goal is to create a fun and exciting environment for the players, families, Shrine kids, and Shriners and to make this a signature event for the Shriners of Illinois.   The featured banquet speaker will be Michael Bates from Divernon.  Michael participated in this event in 2011 and played football at Illinois College.
