Aces' Boys Track Compete In 5 Team Meet At Red Hill

On Tuesday, May 4 at Red Hill, Mt. Carmel track team participated in a 5 team meet.

Those teams included Robinson, Flora, Red Hill and Larenceville.

The 4x100 relay team and the 4x200 relay both won with times of 46.65 and 1:38.18. The relay team consisted of Brayton Ray, Dayton Brimm, Shane Weir, and Beau Stipp.

Stipp also won the triple jump, 38’-9” and the 100 with a time of 11.81.

Dayton Brimm placed 3rd in the long jump,17-0 and finished first in the 200 with a time of 24.49.

Shane Weir placed 5th in the 100 with a time of 12.55.

Gavin Smith

placed first in the High Jump at 5’9” and placed 5th in the triple jump 34’0”.

Jason Miller placed third in the 3200 with a time of 11.33.

Eric Leffler placed 4th in the 800 at 2:21.86.

All IHSA state tourneys expected to return next school year

According to the IHSA's top official, high school sports will return to their normal format starting in the fall of next year - meaning state tournaments are back on the table.

Craig Anderson, Executive Director of the IHSA, said the board met late last month to discuss the idea of returning sports to a normal format in addition to possibly allowing more fans in the stands.

However, Anderson recognized the fact that there is a possibility that some teams could have to take a step back on their season due to positive COVID-19 tests.

A couple of weeks back, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced that masks would not have to be worn during the competition for low-risk sports.

Anderson said once Illinois reaches Gov. Pritzker's 'bridge phase,' more fans could be allowed in attendance.

WVC bass team signs Isaac Irvin of Harrisburg

Wabash Valley College's bass coach Todd Gill, is excited to announce the signing of Isaac Irvin for the 2021–2022 collegiate bass season. Irvin signed on Wednesday afternoon, April 14.

Isaac is the son of Justin and Becky Irvin of Harrisburg, Ill. He is a senior at Galatia High School and will be competing this season on the ICASSTT series and the IHSA series with the Galatia Basscats. Irvin plans to study Electrical Distribution Systems in college and is excited about his opportunity to be a part of the Wabash Valley College bass team.

Aces Baseball Beaten By North Posey

North Posey Vikings Varsity got on the board in the first inning. Jaydyn Wehmer drove in one when Wehmer singled.

Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity evened things up at one in the top of the second inning when Rayce Loudermilk doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

After Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity scored one run in the top of the fifth, North Posey Vikings Varsity answered with one of their own. Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity scored when Tye Kanipe singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. North Posey Vikings Varsity then answered when Owen Spears reached on a dropped third strike.

North Posey Vikings Varsity took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Chris Akers doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Harold Bender got the win for North Posey Vikings Varsity. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out 11.

Kaleb Applebey took the loss for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity. The pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out eight.

Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity socked one home run on the day. Applebey had a homer in the third inning.

Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity collected seven hits. Loudermilk and Gehrig Jones all collected multiple hits for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity. Jones and Loudermilk each managed two hits to lead Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity.

Wehmer led North Posey Vikings Varsity with three hits in three at bats.

Aces Boys Track Finish 2nd In Home Meet

The Mt. Carmel Boys track team finished second at home this Thursday. Beau Stipp placed first in the Triple Jump with a jump of 40”-1’ and also anchored the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams with times of 45.69 and 1:36.18. Brayton Ray, Dayton Brimm, and Shane Weir joined Stipp on the first place relay teams. Shane Weir also finished first in the 200 with a time of 23.28 and finished third in the 100 with a time of 11.87. Gavin Smith placed first in the High Jump with a jump of 5”10’ and finished third in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a time of 52.00 and placed fourth in the triple jump at 36”-2’. Dayton Brimm finished second in the 100 with a time of 11:50 and placed third in the long jump with a jump of 18”7.5’. Zach Allen placed second in the long jump at 18”-10.5’. He also finished third in the 200 with a time of 25.00. Jason Miller finished second in 3200 with a time of 11:33 and third in the 1600 with a time of 5:32. Anthony Bleyer finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:25.26 and fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:39.

Lady Aces Soccer Open Season By ThuMPing Harrisburg

The MCHS Lady Aces soccer team kicked off their season with a 7-0 win over visiting Harrisburg. Maya Smith scored the opening goal in the 1st minute off an assist from Flynn Guard and a key pass from Rylie Webb. Smith scored again unassisted in the 14th minute. Webb scored 10 minutes later on an assist from Smith, giving the Lady Aces the 3-0 lead at the half. The Lady Aces continued their dominant play in the 2nd half, with Webb scoring in the 42nd minute, assisted by McKenna Golden. Smith got herself a hat trick a few minutes later, scoring her 3rd goal on an assist from Webb with Makayla Beesley providing a key pass. Chandler Cusick scored in the 53rd minute on an assist from Webb, followed 3 minutes later by Webb getting a hat trick of her own on an unassisted goal for the 7-0 final score. The Lady Aces took 18 shots, 14 on frame, created 11 additional scoring chances and had 4 interceptions. Rilee Riggs and Katelyn Kline combined in goal for the shutout, with each getting 1 save. The Lady Bulldogs took 4 shots, 2 on frame.

We have a lot of players who either haven't played soccer before at all or haven't played since they were little, so we were curious to see how we'd look in our first match, especially against an opponent who has beaten up on us the last few years. Thankfully we've got a core of older players that we can rely on and who've been good with helping out the more inexperienced players. Speaking of those newer players, they all performed really well in this one. We've still got a lot to work on, but they showed that they're picking up some of the things we've done in practice, and if they continue growing we can hopefully improve as the season goes on. Getting that first game action in is a big step for them that can't be fully replicated in practice. We're without starting senior goalie Allison Thread, so this was a good way to get those 1st game butterflies out of the way for Kline and Riggs. Our defense did a great job of denying Harrisburg many opportunities, so our new goalies were able to get a little experience without being under constant pressure. Our next match likely won't go that way, so this was a good stepping stone for them. Offensively, we're still working on our ball skills and passing ability/accuracy but our girls came up with some good ideas out there with the ball at their feet and we were aggressive in getting to goal which was great to see with so many inexperienced players out there.

The Lady Aces next host the Marion Lady Wildcats on Thursday April 29th at 5:00 pm at the WVC field. Marion has a very good team, dominating their first 3 opponents by a collective score of 22-0, so this will be a good learning experience for our girls.

Aces Boys Track 4th At Lawrenceville

The Mt. Carmel Boys track team finished 4th at Lawrenceville on Tuesday. Gavin Smith won the High Jump with a jump of 6’1” and placed third in the Triple Jump with a best of 36’6”. Beau Stipp Won the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.08 and placed third in the 100 with a time of 11.58. Anthony Bleyer finisher first in the 800 meter run. Jason Miller placed fourth in the 3200 and placed 5th in the 1600 with times of 11:55 and 5:34. Dayton Brimm placed third in the Long Jump with a jump of 18”-5”. Eric Leffler placed 3rd in the 800 with a time of 2:27.18. Shane Weir placed second in the 200 with a time of 24.62 and placed fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.74.

Competing with only 11 girls, the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces finished in 3rd place out of 5 teams yesterday in Lawrenceville.  First place finishers for the Lady Aces are as follows.

Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning, when Kaleb Applebey grounded out, scoring one run.

Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity scored seven runs in the third inning. Rayce Loudermilk, Zach Allen, and Thomas Stringfellow all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Gehrig Jones took the win for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity. Jones surrendered one run on two hits over four innings, striking out seven and walking zero. JD Bowser threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Curtis Richey took the loss for Oblong Panthers Varsity. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one.
