WSJD Joins WW1 To Present Great Postseason NFL Games
With all live sports still on hiatus, WSJD and Westwood One will offer a series of re-broadcasts of some classic contests in NFL postseason history, as well as some of the greatest Super Bowls of all-time. Each game will feature play-by-play as it aired originally, but edited down to minimize stoppages. Where possible, each game will feature interviews or other comments from some of the players and coaches that were involved in the contest. Other times, the broadcasts will feature NFL100 content to celebrate the first century of the NFL.
There will be fourteen “great postseason games” scheduled for rebroadcast on Thursday and Monday nights, beginning on Thursday, April 9th and continuing through Thursday, May 28th (There will not be a game rebroadcast on Thursday, April 23 due to the NFL Draft that evening). Each Monday night will feature a different Super Bowl broadcast, while each Thursday night will feature another postseason game from Westwood One’s archives that isn’t a Super Bowl.
Airtime for each broadcast will be 7:00 PM.
One of the games to be replayed will be the first Super Bowl ever--between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. This will mark the first time the national radio broadcast will be aired in its entirety since the game was played on January 15, 1967. Some of the other Super Bowls to be rebroadcast in this series include Super Bowl XXIII (49ers vs. Bengals), Super Bowl XLII (Giants vs. Patriots), Super Bowl LI (the only overtime game in Super Bowl history) and the most recent one, Super Bowl LIV, won by Kansas City.
Playoff games that will be aired over the next several weeks include, the 1992 AFC Wild Card Game, when the Buffalo Bills overcame a 32-point deficit to defeat the Houston Oilers; the highest scoring game in NFL playoff history, a 2009 Wild Card Game between the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals; and the 2006 AFC Championship Game—one of the many postseason battles between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

IBCA All-Star Game Canceled, Hall of Fame Banquet Likely to be Rescheduled
The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association is issuing this statement in regard to our upcoming events: the 2020 All-Star Games and the 2020 Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year Banquet. Due to the coronavirus pandemic we have made some changes, but there have been several erroneous reports across the state and we want the correct information to be shared.

Originally scheduled for early June, 2020, THESE GAMES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. We will still be naming student-athletes to these teams. These players will be honored on our web page and in our Hall of Fame banquet book. We heartily congratulate those seniors who have earned this prestigious honor. IBCA HALL OF FAME BANQUET
This event was originally scheduled for May 2, 2020 at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. IT IS NOT CANCELLED. Our organization is working with ISU to determine if there is a date in August/September/October that would work as a reschedule date. We are exploring other options as well. IHSA Still Plans On Spring Sports State Tournaments
From IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson:
“First and foremost, the IHSA continues to encourage all Illinois residents to heed the recommendations of state officials and medical experts. These quarantine and social distancing measures have been put in place not only for your own safety, but also for those around you. By adhering to them, we ensure the shortest path to returning to normalcy, including physical school attendance and participation in high school sports and activities.
Even though Illinois schools will remain closed through April 30th following the March 31st announcement by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, we remain optimistic that a May 1 return to school, followed by a to-be-determined acclimatization practice period, can still result in a truncated spring season that culminates with IHSA State Series tournaments and the crowning of state champions in June.
In its discussions thus far, the IHSA Board of Directors has been highly supportive of creating an exemption to the IHSA Season Limitation By-law to allow spring sports to play into late June, but competing into or beyond July is not being considered at this time.
We are also realistic in recognizing that any further school postponements, or the cessation of physical school attendance for the remainder of the year, will almost certainly result in the cancellation of all remaining IHSA sports and activities this school year.”

WSJD & WW1 To Present Classic March Madness Games
With all live sports currently on hiatus, WSJD and The Westwood One/NCAA Radio Network will offer a series of re-broadcasts of some of the classic contests in NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament History. Each game will feature play-by-play as it aired originally, but edited down to minimize stoppages. Additionally, each game will feature interviews and additional perspective from some of the players and coaches that were involved in the contest.
There will be fifteen “great games” scheduled for rebroadcast, beginning with a single game on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20. There will be doubleheader on both Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22. There will also be single games the following week on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27 and doubleheaders on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29.
The schedule concludes with a pair of games on what was supposed to be Final Four Saturday, April 4, and then one final offering will be fed on championship Monday, April 6, 2020.
Some of the games include the 1979 National Championship Game between Michigan State and Indiana State, featuring Magic Johnson and Larry Bird; the 1982 National Championship Game between North Carolina and Georgetown, featuring Michael Jordan; the 2016 National Championship Game between Villanova and North Carolina; the 2018 First Round Game when UMBC stunned Virginia to become the first #16 seed to ever win a tournament game; and the 2008 First Round Game when Stephen Curry burst onto the scene as Davidson upset Gonzaga.

NJCAA Cancels Spring Sports Season
Following the recent recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the NJCAA has made the difficult decision to cancel all upcoming basketball championships as well as spring competition, effective immediately.
"In light of the progressive evolvement of the COVID-19 situation, the NJCAA has decided to end all competition for the remainder of the academic year," stated Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President & CEO. "As an association, the NJCAA exhausted all possible avenues to potentially postpone competition for both upcoming basketball championships and spring sport competition. We believe following the recommendations of the CDC is in the best interest of our member colleges and our student-athletes."
Spring competition includes all practices, regular season, postseason, and national championship play.
Regarding eligibility for spring sports, no spring sport student-athlete who was enrolled at a member college in 2020 will be charged a year of participation.
Along with the cancellation of competition, all on and off-campus recruiting for all sports will be halted until April 15 with further evaluation to be assessed at that point in time.
The NJCAA will explore the opportunity to expand allowable Letters of Intent for spring sports for both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years under the recommendation of the NJCAA Eligibility Committee.
The NJCAA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
WVC bass team hosts pro angler Bradley Roy
On Saturday, Feb. 29, the Wabash Valley College bass team hosted a bass fishing workshop with Major League Fishing, Bass Pro Tour angler Bradley Roy. The event was held in the Brubeck Arts Center Auditorium with around 100 anglers and fishing enthusiasts in attendance.
In the morning session, Bradley covered how to locate bass on large lakes and catch them based on various seasonal patterns and phases. The afternoon session covered topics such as how to use various media outlets to learn the “identity of a lake,” and how to utilize mapping and marine electronics to identify high value, high percentage targets for catching bass. “You can’t catch what isn’t there,” Roy stated. “If you can’t find fish, everything else is irrelevant.”
The workshop raffled off several items donated by area businesses and had a flipping/pitching contest between sessions that allowed attendees an opportunity to win various tackle items that were donated by Walmart Supercenter in Olney, Ill. Roy ended the workshop with a question-and-answer session and remained on campus after the workshop for photo opportunities with area anglers.
Bradley Roy is from Lancaster, Ken. and has been a professional angler for 10 years. He was the 2010 Bassmaster Rookie of the Year. He has qualified for the Bassmaster Classic three times with his highest finish being 7th in 2017. In 2018, he finished 3rd in points for the year on the Bass Elite Series. Bradley has 10 career top-10 tour finishes and has career earnings in excess of $500,000.
IHSA Cancels Winter Sports Championships
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced on March 12, 2020, that it has canceled its remaining winter State Series postseason tournaments, which include Boys Basketball, Scholastic Bowl, Drama & Group Interpretation, Music, Debate and Journalism, over concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding that we have received from everyone involved in this process over the past 72 hours,” said Craig Anderson. “We have stressed the fluidity of this situation and have been transparent about the possibility that a suspension or cancellation could occur. While we had support from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Peoria City/County Health Department to continue our events with limited spectators, it has become untenable to continue the events among our member schools. Multiple schools who are participating or hosting these sports and activities have been forced to withdraw from those roles, clarifying the need for the IHSA to take definitive action. The Board considered suspending the events, but after deliberate discussion, did not believe that was a realistic option within the timeline. We feel for everyone who has been impacted, but must put the health and safety of all involved ahead of these events.”
The IHSA has not made any decisions related to spring sport tournaments at this time.
“It is too early to make any decisions regarding IHSA spring state final tournaments,” said Anderson. “We respect the NCAA’s decision to cancel its spring championships, but also recognize that the exposure and travel by our high school teams is not as expansive as collegiate teams. At this juncture, we recommend that all IHSA spring sport teams consult their local health departments, and follow their recommendations on if and how to proceed with practices and regular-season contests.”
Anderson added, “I also want to commend the coaches and administrators from the Class 1A and Class 2A boys basketball state finalists who traveled to Peoria today. While obviously disappointed, they conducted themselves with the utmost class as we charted this unprecedented situation together.”
IHSA Announces Tournament Updates Related to COVID-19
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced on March 12, 2020 that it will significantly limit attendance at the remaining games in the 2020 IHSA Boys Basketball State Series, as well as at other IHSA events, to preemptively reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.
The decision comes after consultation with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Peoria City/County Health Department, the latter of whom made the recommendation that no more than 60 spectators per school be allowed in the arena for each contest at this weekend’s Class 1A and Class 2A Boys Basketball State Finals. The IHSA currently plans to invoke the 60-spectator per school limitation across all remaining basketball games this season.
“This was a difficult decision shaped by thoughtful deliberation set against a truly unprecedented backdrop,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “IHSA Basketball is America’s Original March Madness, and we recognize that this tournament is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the competing teams, communities and fans. Ultimately though, we have to put the health and safety of the students, along with the general public, ahead of the spectacle of the event. This is and remains a fluid situation. It is important that our member schools and fans understand that events outside any of our control could lead to further changes over the coming hours and days.”
Games impacted by this change include the 2020 IHSA Class 1A/2A Boys Basketball State Finals on March 13-14, as well as the remaining contests at the Class 3A and Class 4A Sectional, Super-Sectional, and State Final levels. IHSA State Series’ in Debate, Drama & Group Interpretation, and Scholastic Bowl will also operate under a similar premise, with those events being limited to competing students, coaches and essential meet personnel.
Full refunds will be available for any tickets already purchased for the remaining contests.

Allendale Volleyball Report
On Saturday, March 7th, Yellow Jackets Volleyball participated in the C-team tournament at Mt. Carmel. In the first match, Mt. Carmel defeated Allendale in two games, 25-3 and 25-7. In the second match, Albion defeated the Yellow Jackets in two games, 25-21 and 25-11. In the third and final match of the day, Allendale defeated St. Mary's in three games, 25-19, 20-25, and 15-12.
On Monday, March 9th, Yellow Jackets Volleyball was back in action at St. Mary's for non-conference play. In the C-match, St. Mary's won in two games, 25-19 and 25-8. In the B-match, St. Mary's won in two games, 25-4 and 25-8. In the A-match, St. Mary's also won in two games, 25-13 and 25-13.

The Varsity team came out very strong the first game. We started to make some hitting errors the second game, but I was glad to see they didn’t stop swinging and trying to attack the ball.
Allendale Hosts New Hope On 8th Grade Night
On Thursday, March 5th, Yellow Jackets Volleyball hosted New Hope in WEAA Conference action as well as 8th Grade Night. In the C-match, the Yellow Jackets get their first victory of the season, as they defeated New Hope in two games, 25-20 and 25-19. In the B-match, New Hope won in two games, 25-15 and 25-10. In the A-match, New Hope won in two games, 25-7 and 25-23. Next up for the Yellow Jackets: C-team at Mt. Carmel tournament on Saturday, March 7th.

On Tuesday, February 25th, Yellow Jackets Volleyball traveled to Grayville for WEAA Conference action. In the B-match, Grayville won in two games, 25-11 and 25-21. In the A-match, Grayville won in two games, 25-11 and 25-16. Next up: WEAA Conference Tournament at Clay City on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will play Clay City at 4 pm.

Wow this was such a exciting win! The girls were slow to start, and let a few balls drop the first game. The second game they came alive and played awesome. We were talking well, picking up some tough balls, and attacking every chance we had. The Lady Rockets lead most of the 3rd game. We lead all the way to being up 14-10. As soon as we thought we had it won New Hope fought back and came up with 14-15. We battled for the next point to tie it up with 15s all. Bella Andrews was able to stay composed and serve us home to a 17-15 sweet victory! Thursday we head to Clay City for the conference tournament. We will be facing New Hope at 5:00 for the first round.
Schnarre first honored, then surprised
Saturday, Wabash Valley College honored Paul Schnarre for his record-setting career as Lady Warrior softball coach and long tenure as Athletic Director.
And, that was just the beginning.
During a ceremony prior to the start of the Warriors’ home finale basketball game, WVC president Dr. Matt Fowler read from a long list of Schnarre accomplishments, including the all-time junior college record for softball wins (1,404). Schnarre was surrounded by current and former players along with family and friends.
But there was more.
Athletic Director Mike Carpenter then stepped to the mic and surprised Schnarre again. He announced plans to begin a WVC Hall of Fame in 2021 and said that Schnarre would be the first inductee into the Hall. A sign proclaiming Schnarre’s induction was then unveiled.
“We have been working on this for a few months, and the hardest part has been keeping it a secret from Coach Schnarre,” Carpenter said. “His guidance and vision as the Athletic Director is the main reason why all of our sports have competed on a National level for so many years, and his excellence as a Softball coach will never be duplicated. We’re happy to announce Paul Schnarre as the first inductee into the WVC Athletics Hall of Fame.”
Schnarre, who retired from the head softball position earlier this year, amassed a record of 1,404-325. His teams have won 23 Great Rivers Athletic Conference championships, 11 Region titles and have made 10 trips to the NJCAA national softball tournament.
In 1973, Schnarre was hired at WVC as the head baseball coach. He later became Athletic Director in 1976, a position he held for 37 years before stepping down in 2013.

Jr. Lady Aces Capture C Team Championship At Allendale
On Saturday, February 22nd, the Wabash Valley Volleyball Tournament took place at Allendale Elementary School. In the C-tournament, the following were the scores:
St. Mary's defeated Allendale 15-9 and 15-12
Mt. Carmel defeated Allendale 15-6 and 15-13
Mt. Carmel defeated St. Mary's 14-16, 16-14, and 15-10
The Mt. Carmel Jr. Lady Aces took 1st place in the C-tournament portion, while St. Mary's Lady Rockets took 2nd place.

In the B-team format at Allendale School of the Wabash Valley Volleyball Tournament, the St. Mary's Lady Rockets took 1st Place and the Mt. Carmel Junior Lady Aces took 2nd Place. The following are the scores from the round robin tournament:

Sometimes the serving misses almost become contagious. Saturday we head to Allendale for the c-team, JV, and Varsity tournaments starting at 9 o’clock.
