On May 27, 2025, at 10 p.m. Gibson County Deputy Michael Bates conducted a traffic stop on a Black 2019 Chevy Impala for speeding on US 41 near County Road 400 South. Upon conducting the stop near County Road 100 West Deputy Bates identified the driver as 35-year-old Ashley McClain of Terre Haute. While speaking with Ms. McClain Deputy Bates detected clues that the driver was under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. At that point Deputy Bates began a roadside OWI investigation. At the conclusion of his inquiry Deputy Bates placed Ms. McClain into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail where she was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Deputy U.B. Smith assisted Deputy Bates in his investigation.

Texas man arrested for OWI
On May 24, 2025, at 4:37 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of intoxicated individuals at the Dollar General Store located at 7979 South US Highway 41 in Fort Branch who were about to get into a vehicle and drive away. Multiple law enforcement officers were sent to the business to locate the vehicle which was described as a Black Chevrolet Silverado. Haubstadt Officer Bryan Munnier located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Deputy Eric Powell arrived on scene shortly thereafter and observed an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. At that point Deputy Powell began a roadside DUI investigation, and at the end of his inquiry he placed the driver Jesus Alberto Arco Diaz into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the jail Mr. Diaz was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Possession of Marijuana, Operator Never Licensed, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Fort Branch man arrested for OWI
On May 24, 2025, at 10:39 p.m. Gibson County Deputy Wes Baumgart conducted a traffic stop on a Red Chevy truck for speeding on US 41 near County Road 800 South. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Baumgart identified the driver as 23-year-old Corbin Williams of Fort Branch. Upon speaking with Mr. Williams Deputy Baumgart detected clues that the driver was under the influence. At that point Deputy Baumgart began a roadside DUI investigation. At the end of his investigation, he placed Mr. Williams into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Deputy Baumgart was assisted by Deputy Michael Bates, Haubstadt Officer Bryan Munnier, and Princeton Sgt. Ben Kiesel.

Mt. Carmel Man Jailed On Domestic Battery Charge
On 05.24.25 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office took a complaint of domestic battery that had occurred on 05.23.25. The deputy went to 6254 E. 550 Rd. To investigate the complaint and in turn took 60-year-old David A. Banks of Mt. Carmel into custody without incident. Banks had a detention hearing on 05.27.25 which resulted in his detention.
St. Francisville Man Arrested For DUI Following Crash
On 05.23.25 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office responded to a one vehicle crash. When the deputy arrived, he observed a male sitting on the hood of his vehicle. The male later identified as Jack D. Fouts, 44 of St. Francisville, IL advised he had missed his turn. A roadside investigation into the crash it was determined that Fouts was under the influence of alcohol. Fouts was taken to the Wabash County Jail where he was processed and later released.
Registered Sex Offender Arrested In Bellmont
On 05.19.25 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office had received two complaints of a registered sex offender living in Bellmont, while being registered at another address. Upon a brief investigation it was determined that William S. Franks, 32 of West Salem IL was in fact living at 212 S. Persimmon St. in Bellmont. Franks was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Franks was out on a furlough from White Co. Illinois where he had already pled guilty to another sex crime. Subsequently Franks had a detention hearing in Wabash County Circuit Court and will be held pending trial. Franks was charged with Failure to Register New Address.
Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Sexual Abuse Charge
On 5/22/25, Donald W. Lloyd, age 70, of Mt. Carmel, was arrested on a Wabash County Warrant for Criminal Sexual Abuse by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant stemmed from an MCPD investigation in April of 2025, where it was alleged that Lloyd had committed an act of sexual conduct while at a residence in Mt. Carmel. The allegation was corroborated when Lloyd sent messages and made phone calls to the alleged victim acknowledging the conduct. Lloyd was taken to the Wabash County Jail, where he was charged and held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court.
Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Grooming Charge
On 5/15/25, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Dalton L. Compton, age 27, of Mt. Carmel for Grooming following an MCPD investigation into an allegation that Compton had solicited a juvenile under the age of 17 for sexual images while utilizing a social media application. Officers located Compton in the 100 block of E 4th Street, where he was placed under arrest. Compton was taken to the Wabash County Jail, where he was charged and later released on a Notice to Appear. This case remains under investigation.
FTA Warrant Sends Mt. Carmel Man To Jail
On 5/17/25, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Joseph L. Sumner, age 38, of Mt. Carmel, on a Wabash County FTA Warrant. The arresting officer located Sumner at his residence on Southview Drive, where he was taken into custody. Sumner was transported to the Wabash County Jail, where he was issued the warrant and held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court.

On 5/20/25, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Nicholas M. Irelan, age 38, of Mt. Carmel, on a Wabash County Felony FTA Warrant. The arresting officer observed Irelan at 3rd Street and Lambert Drive, where he was taken into custody. Irelan was transported to the Wabash County Jail, where he was issued the warrant and held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court.
