Allegedly Threatening Family Members Results In Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Man

On 9/01/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Bryan M. Potter, age 33, of Mt. Carmel for Assault following a complaint about Potter threatening family members with bodily harm and burning the family’s house down during a family dispute.  This incident was observed by multiple family members who feared for their safety due to his numerous reported threats of harm.  One family member elected to pursue charges against Potter, resulting in his arrest.  Potter was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending a pre-trial release determination. 

Report Of Fight In Progress Sends Mt. Carmel Man To Jail

On 8/30/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Trevor J. Cooper, age 33, of Mt. Carmel for Battery following an investigation into a fight in progress call at 519 N Market Street. The alleged victim, who resides in the building, stated he was attacked by Cooper when he refused to give an allegedly intoxicated Cooper a ride somewhere.  It was reported that Cooper had shoved the victim down into a stairwell to the apartments and began striking him in the head and arms.  Cooper was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending a pre-trial release determination.

Mt. Carmel Woman Picked Up On FTA Warrant

On 8/29/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Jesika R. Moreno, age 32, of Mt. Carmel on a Wabash County Warrant for Failure to Appear.  While investigating a stolen property complaint at Tower Heights in the 300 block of W 10th Street, the officer observed Moreno and knew she was wanted.  Moreno was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending the posting of bond. 

Pair Arrested Following Domestic Situation At Shamrock Motel

On 9/03/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Alicia M. Swift, age 40 and Russell D. Singer, age 44, both of Mt. Carmel for Domestic Battery following a domestic dispute at the Shamrock Motel.  Officers responded to the scene and heard yelling coming from one of the rooms.  Upon entry into the room, the officer observed Singer holding Swift on the floor pinning her arms on the floor.  Both subjects were ordered apart and detained pending further investigation.  Their investigation into the matter provided evidence that Swift had come to his motel room, upset with Singer.  During the process, Swift damaged the room and struck Singer with a can of ravioli as well as her fists, resulting in a laceration to his forehead.  Evidence also indicated that Singer had attacked Swift by choking her several times, resulting in redness around her neck area.  Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where they were processed and held pending a pre-trial release determination.  MCPD was assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office.

River Camp Auction Next Month

If you’ve ever wanted to own a river camp, you’ll get your chance next month. Mayor Joe Judge said an online auction will be held next month on the 13 parcels along River Road….

JUDGE RIVER CAMP AUCTION 9 3 24…

The river camps have always been on city property, but squatters had occupied the lots without paying the city any compensation. So, the city took action to reclaim the properties and kick the squatters off. The lots have now been surveyed and exact details of the auctions and the available lots will be released at a later date according to Judge.

Judge Meets With Skate Park Supporters

Is a skate park in Mt. Carmel’s future? At yesterday's city council meeting, Mayor Joe Judge said he had recently met with a group interested in bringing a skate park to town….

Currently, Judge said skaters are using their own skate equipment at the city park pavilion. He said the group has been very respectful of the city’s property and has caused no problems.

City Holds Farmland Lease Auction

Just two bidders showed up yesterday at a lease auction for the city of Mt. Carmel’s two parcels of farmland. Ed Timberlake was the winning bidder on 17 acres of ground near Braun Mobility on the city’s west side. His bid was $275 an acre. The second parcel was 528 acres near the airport in Lawrence County. Ivers Farms bid $315 an acre to keep the lease with the city.
