On 7/16/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Charles B. Garrett, age 59, of Mt. Carmel for Domestic Battery and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia following a domestic dispute at a residence in the 400 block of N Walnut Street. Upon arrival, officers found evidence to indicate Garrett had battered two female companions, who have both resided with Garrett at this residence in the past. The victims alleged Garrett had grabbed one victim by the neck and shoulder area, pushing her into the door way of his room. The second victim reported Garrett committed the above action to the first victim when she tried to stop Garrett from pushing and grabbing the shoulder area of the second victim. The additional charge for drug paraphernalia stemmed from a suspected methamphetamine pipe being found in the residence that Garrett admitted to being his pipe. Garrett was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court.
Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On FTA Warrant Following Traffic Stop
On 7/13/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Charli J. Sullivan, age 26, of Mt. Carmel on a Wabash County Warrant for Failure to Appear-Possession of a Controlled Substance. Prior to the arrest, the arresting officer observed Sullivan operating a tan Mercury SUV resulting in a traffic stop in the 100 block of E 6th Street. Sullivan was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was issued the warrant and held pending further disposition by the court.
MCPD Arrest Mt. Carmel Man On Aggravated Domestic Battery Charge
On 7/13/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested David A. Pierce, age 64, of Mt. Carmel for Aggravated Domestic Battery following a domestic dispute between a couple at a residence in the 1100 block of W 6th Street. When police arrived to the scene, they observed Pierce choking the female victim through the glass front door. The officer detained Pierce at this time. Further investigation provided information indicating Pierce became upset after the female locked the door when he went to the grocery store. This led to the physical dispute that the officer witnessed, upon arrival. Pierce was taken to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged accordingly and held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court. The Wabash General Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene.
Mt. Carmel Man Jailed Following Domestic Altercation
On 7/12/14, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Krieg J. Addison, age 21, of Mt. Carmel for Aggravated Domestic Battery and Endangering the Life of a Child following a domestic dispute between a couple at a residence in the 500 block of W 5th Street. Police were called to the scene following a 911 call regarding an ongoing physical domestic. Mt. Carmel Police and a deputy from the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office arrived. The deputy observed Addison pulling the female victim across the front room by the feet. This resulted in Addison being detained pending further investigation. The investigation uncovered evidence to indicate Addison had battered the female victim by striking her in the face and choking her, based on these visible injuries, among others. Addison was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail. The additional charge of child endangerment stemmed from the domestic incident occurring in the presence of two children. Wabash General Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene. Addison is being held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court.
Allendale School Board Notes
At the July 2024 Allendale School Board meeting held in the library of Allendale School, the board:
● Accepted the bid from Prairie Farms to be the school’s milk product supplier for the 2024-2025 school year.
● Approved to abate $30,000 from Working Cash Fund to the Tort Fund.
● Adopted the Student Handbook, Student Conduct Code, and Internet/Computer Network Usage documents for 2024-2025.
● Approved Amy Kingsbury as Head Custodian beginning August 1, 2024.
ISP ASSISTS FAIRFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH INVESTIGATION
FAIRFIELD – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 8, alongside the Fairfield Police Department, announce the arrest of 36-year-old Adreian D.A. Hooper of Fairfield, IL for Involuntary Manslaughter (Class 2 Felony), Endangering the Life of a Child - Death (Class 3 Felony), Reckless Conduct (Class 4 Felony), and Endangering the Life of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor).
On July 14, 2024, ISP was requested by the Fairfield Police Department to assist in the death investigation of a 1-year-old male and the severe injury of another 2-year-old male. Both children were reported to have been left in a vehicle for multiple hours. The Child Death Investigative Task Force was subsequently activated.
On July 16, 2024, after a thorough investigation, the Wayne County State's Attorney's Office charged Hooper with the above-mentioned charges. She is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail. No further information is available at this time.
Gate Now Open At Bottom Of Stadium For Walkers/Joggers
At Monday night’s Wabash District #348 school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer said the district is opening a gate at Riverview Stadium to allow walkers and runners to the track there. Bleyer said the gate will be closed during school hours, but the track will be accessible from the bottom before and after school, even if practices are taking place on the stadium turf. Up to now, those wanting to access the track have had to traverse the steps at Riverview Stadium and go back up again. Bleyer said the district had hoped to have accessibility available before now but plans to put in a new gate never materialized due to delays from the contractor.
Operation Share School Supply Program Now Accepting Signups
Sign up for the Operation Share School Supply Program is currently underway for High School students in Wabash County. Families needing help with obtaining school supplies for MCHS students should call the Wabash County WADI office at 618-262-4151 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday to register. Distribution will be August 5th.
Donations of school supplies, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, personal hygiene items, or cash donations are greatly appreciated. They can be dropped off or mailed to WADI at 119 W. 12th Street in Mt. Carmel. Checks should be made out to WADI with “school supplies” on the memo line. 100% of donations go to the school supply program.
