On June 7, 2024, at 11 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a fight in progress in the 2500 block of North 950 West near rural Owensville. Multiple units were dispatched to the scene, and upon arriving Deputy Michael Owens could hear the sound of fighting coming from inside the residence. After ordering the men out of the residence he held them at gunpoint until back up could arrive. Once back up arrived an investigation was conducted into the incident. During the investigation probable cause was found to place 23 year old Dalton Farrar of Mount Carmel into custody. Once the investigation was concluded Mr. Farrar was transported to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Residential Entry, Battery with Bodily Injury, Criminal Mischief, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.

City Council Approves Water Rate Increase
As expected, water rates in Mt. Carmel are going up again. Two weeks ago, the city council heard the first reading of the ordinance that would help raise revenue to pay for planned projects related to the water department. Judge Salutes Retiring City Hall Worker; Announces Her Replacement
At Monday’s city council meeting, Mayor Joe Judge saluted the service of Judy Landingham who retired Friday after 11 1/2 years with the city. Judge also announced that Lesley Glenn has been hired by the city to replace Landingham as assistant city treasurer and water clerk.
Princeton woman arrested on OWI charge
On May 31, 2024, at 7:58 a.m. Gibson County Deputy U.B. Smith responded to a Be On the Look Out report of a possible impaired driver on Broadway in Princeton. The caller gave a detailed description of the Red 2012 Dodge Caravan and stated the vehicle had crossed the center line multiple times and was often swerving. The caller stayed behind the vehicle and on the phone with dispatch until law enforcement could get in the area. Once Deputy Smith arrived on scene he observed the vehicle had expired plates. At that point Deputy Smith conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 1000 block of East Broadway. Upon approaching the vehicle the driver was identified as 56 year old Sheelah Brown of Princeton. While speaking with Ms. Brown Deputy Smith detected evidence that would indicate Ms. Brown was under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. At that point Deputy Smith began a roadside OWI investigation. Once that investigation was finished Deputy Smith placed Ms. Brown into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail where she was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Possession of Methamphetamines, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Patoka man arrested on OWI charge
On May 31, 2024, at 4:09 p.m. Gibson County Deputy Logan Lashbrook stopped a Blue 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander on in the Rural King Parking lot located at 2007 W. Broadway Street in Princeton after Gibson County Central Dispatch had received multiple calls about how the vehicle had caused multiple accidents on US 41. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Lashbrook identified the driver as 62 year old Timothy Morgan of Patoka. While speaking with Mr. Morgan Deputy Lashbrook observed clues that the driver may under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. At that point Deputy Lashbrook began a roadside OWI investigation. At the conclusion of his investigation he placed Mr. Morgan into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Assisting Deputy Lashbrook in his investigation was Princeton officer Brandt George and Gibson County Special Deputy Randy Ziliak.

Mount Carmel woman arrested on DUI charge
On June 2, 2024, at 8:20 p.m. Gibson County Deputy U.B. Smith conducted a traffic stop on a Blue 2012 Buick SUV after observing the vehicle driving left of center on South Main Street near Delaware Street in Princeton. Upon stopping the vehicle on outer South Main Deputy Smith identified the driver as 35 year old Kayli Young of Mount Carmel. While speaking with Ms. Young Deputy Smith detected the odor of alcohol coming from the driver and began a roadside DUI investigation. At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Smith placed Ms. Young into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail.

Evansville man arrested on DUI charge
On June 2, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a vehicle driving South bound in the northbound lane of US 41 near Richland Creek in Princeton. Deputies Michael Owens and Zach Lienemann went out onto US 41 in an attempt to locate the vehicle. At 12:42 a.m. Deputy Owens observed a Tan 2002 Toyota Camry in the median on US 41 north of the Kings Mine Exit. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Owens identified the driver as 27 year old Luis Robles of Evansville. While speaking with Mr. Robles Deputy Owens immediately detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. At that point he began a roadside DUI investigation that resulted in Mr. Robles being taken into custody. Mr. Robles was transported to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

Pair Arrested On Domestic Battery Charge After Friday Incident
On 6/07/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested David A. Pierce, age 74 and Rebecca A. Dudley, age 54, both of Mt. Carmel for Assault following a domestic dispute at their residence in the 1000 block of West 6th Street. Upon arrival, officers received allegations that Dudley had thrown a vase towards him, shattering it. Dudley alleged that Pierce had thrown a horseshoe towards her, during the dispute. Both sought charges against the other resulting in both being arrested, transported to the jail for processing, and then released on a Notice to Appear.
11th Avenue Domestic Dispute Sends Mt. Carmel Man To Jail
On 5/16/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Dirk More, age 45, of Mt. Carmel for Domestic Battery following a domestic dispute with a family member outside of his home in the 900 block of 11th Ave. The family member reported that More had pushed them to the ground, after becoming upset about a letter he had received. Officers found evidence that corroborated the alleged claim, resulting in More’s arrest. More was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending a pre-trial release determination by the court.
Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges For Albion Man
On 6/08/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Kevin M. Pickering, age 34, of Albion for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle following a traffic stop on a black 2020 Honda near 3rd & Bellmont Street. The stop was a result of the driver, Kevin Pickering, committing a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code. During the stop, Ofc. Hopper and K-9 Eleven responded to the scene and conducted a free air narcotic sniff around the exterior of the Honda. In doing so, Eleven alerted to the odor of narcotics from the driver’s door. A subsequent search resulted in officers locating a clear bag of suspected methamphetamine, a glass pipe that had been used to ingest suspected narcotics, and a package of hypodermic needles. Additionally, officers located a pinkish red powder inside a baggie as well as 8 white pills identified as Hydromorphone Hydrochloride, a DEA Schedule II narcotic. The arresting officer completed a drug field test kit on the suspected methamphetamine, which indicated positive. The pinkish red powder field tested positive for Fentanyl. Pickering was taken to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and released on a Notice to Appear.
