On 1/14/2022, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Jackson L. Richards, age 25, of Mt. Carmel, for Home Invasion and Criminal Damage to Property following an incident at a residence in the 600 block of West 5th Street. Police were dispatched to the residence regarding allegations of Richards yelling threats at a resident inside the home and later damaging two doors to gain entry into the house. Once police arrived, they located Richards outside the home where he was detained pending an investigation into the allegations. After probable cause was established into the claims, Richards was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Jackson was issued the above charges, and bond was later set at $10,000 cash bond.

Allendale School Board Notes
At the January 2022 Allendale School Board meeting held in the Library of Allendale School, the board:
Approved the second update to the Back to School Plan. The Back to School Plan will now utilize the newest guidelines provided recently by the CDC, IDPH, and ISBE.
Approved the 2021-2022 Certified Seniority List.
Approved the Superintendent Evaluation as presented.
Approved a Resolution to Abate a portion of the Tax Levy concerning the Taxable General Obligation Bond the district currently has. The abated portion will come from the 1% Sales Tax proceeds.
Approved the Joint Agreement Resolution for the Ohio and Wabash Valley Regional Vocational System. This was an update for the original intergovernmental agreement and policies.
Approved a two-year contract for Assistant Principal Cindy Brogan. This contract will run from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024
Henager Retires From IECC Board
Changes in membership to the Board of Trustees of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges, were announced during the regular meeting Tuesday, January 18, at Lincoln Trail College, Robinson.
Board of Trustee members received notification of the retirement of Trustee Al Henager. Trustee Henager joined the Board in 2015. The Board of Trustees is charged with establishing policy for the financing, governance, operation, and administration of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges. Seven voting members are elected from the District at large, each serving a six-year term.
Student Maggee Bleyer was seated to fill a vacancy to serve as Student Trustee. Ms. Bleyer, a Wabash Valley College student, will serve as student representative to the Board, until the next regular election of a student trustee to the Board in April 2022.
The Board approved a facility usage agreement with Southern Illinois University – Carbondale for motorcycle safety training to be conducted on college campuses.
Changes were made to the current policy that addresses credit awarded for experience and learning outside the classroom and for revisions to the current policy that addresses the reimbursement of costs incurred for electronic devices by District employees.
A new temporary policy was adopted to address employee absences due to Covid 19. The Temporary Covid Sick Leave policy will expire May 16, 2022.
A bid received from Overturf Electric was approved in the amount of $125,000 for a solar array to be installed at Frontier Community College.
Affiliation agreements were approved with the following area health care facilities, Aperion Care, located in Bridgeport, Illinois; Deaconess Women’s Hospital, located in Newburgh, Indiana; for Terre Haute Regional Hospital, located in Terre Haute, Indiana; and for Ridgeview Health & Rehabilitation, located in Oblong, Illinois.
Board approval was given for the employment of Alani Frederick as Associate Dean of Allied Health and effective February 28, 2022; for Nicholas Knapp as Construction Project
Manager at the District Office, effective February 21, 2022; and for Derek Dunn as Educational Technology Specialist for the Title III Program at Frontier Community, effective January 24,
2022.
The Board accepted the resignation of Blake Ordell as Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Lincoln Trail College, effective January 22, 2022.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, February 15, at 6:15 p.m. at Olney Central College.
Judge Addresses "Equality And Racial Justice" In State Of The City Address
In the spirit of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mayor Joe Judge is addressing equality and racial justice in Mt. CarmeL.
He continued that no one should have poor life chances because of where they were born or where they come from, what they believe, or whether they have a disability. During his State of the City address Friday on WSJD, Judge said the first step is the city awarding $750 needs based scholarships to two MCHS seniors.
More State COVID Aid For Local Health Departments
The state is providing more financial help for local health departments to cover the additional costs related to COVID duties. Health Department administrator Judy Wissel said the state is releasing an additional $250,000 grants for health departments to cover from January 1st through December 31st of this year.

Wissel said that because of changes in the way state is releasing data, there will be some changes in what the health department can pass along in their weekly Wednesday report. Due to the changes, the positivity rate, quarantine, and isolation data will not be reported any longer. She said her office will do their best to continue reporting new cases. COVID testing at the health department continues every day from 11 to 3.
Allendale Taking Another Emergency Day On Tuesday

Allendale School will be taking an Emergency Day on Tuesday, January 18th. There will not be remote learning or breakfast/lunch available. This is an Emergency Day. For various reasons, we will not have enough personnel to properly provide supervision and instruction. So again, we will not be in school on Tuesday, January 18th for an emergency day. Extra-curricular activities are still on for now. Parents, if your child is currently in quarantine or isolation, please call the school before 9:00 am on Tuesday to inform us of their status and date to return to school.
Albion Moose Offering $2,000 Scholarship To Area Seniors
Applications for the Albion Moose Family Center #621 “Deceased Pilgrim Memorial Scholarship” are now available from guidance counselor Kelley Biggs at Edwards County High School. Applications must be picked up from the ECHS counselor and are not available at the Lodge. Scholarship applications can be mailed to you by contacting Mrs. Biggs at 618-445-2325.
This will be the 22nd year for this scholarship program. The scholarship award is $2000. Applications must be returned or postmarked by March 18, 2022.
The recipients are chosen based on their individual skills in leadership, citizenship, extracurricular activities, GPA, Moose affiliation, and a 500-word essay entitled “The value of the Fraternal Organization to My Community”. Applications are available to any ECHS senior or any senior attending public high schools in the counties of Wabash, Wayne, White or Richland.

VEHICLE: Unit 1- 2013 Gold Buick Enclave
DRIVER: Unit 1- Wendy S. Dunfee, 31-year-old female of Sumner, IL – Deceased
PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling west on Elbow Road just west of Higgins Switch Road. Unit 1 exited the roadway to the left and struck a tree. The driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased at the scene. No further information is available.
