Another project that’s been in the planning stages for the last couple of years is the Cherry Street bridge project that will fill in the former railroad overpass….

Judge said work is also expected to start this week on the Oak Street sidewalk project between 4th and 9th Streets. And, the mayor said there has been some movement on the vacant Borowiak’s IGA store at 9th and Walnut Streets…

The city council will meet in regular session at 5pm today at City Hall. Also meeting today will be the Wabash County Commissioners at 4:30 at the courthouse.

Driver Airlifted Following I-57 Crash

ISP INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC CRASH WITH INJURIES

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12

WHAT:                      Two Vehicle Traffic Crash with Injuries

WHERE:                   Interstate 57 southbound near Milepost 135, Fayette County

WHEN:                      Nov. 12, 2021 at approximately 7:23 a.m.

VEHICLES:              Unit 1 – Black 2015 Ford Escape

                                    Unit 2 – White 2021 Volvo Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer

                                   

DRIVERS:                 Unit 1 – Jacob A. Wacker, a 25-year-old male from Hoyelton, IL – Airlifted to a regional hospital with injuries.

                                   

Unit 2 – Michael E. Wilson, a 46-year-old male from Plant City, FL – Refused medical attention.

 

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 2 had been traveling southbound on Interstate 57 near Milepost 135, but was stopped in the lane due to another crash in the area. Unit 1 was traveling southbound in the same area. Unit 1 rear-ended the trailer of Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 was airlifted to a regional hospital with injuries. The driver of Unit 2 refused medical attention. No further information will be disseminated at this time.

 

CHARGES:               The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.

McLeansboro Man Seriously Injured In Hamilton County Crash

WHAT:                      Two Vehicle Traffic Crash with Injuries

WHERE:                   Illinois Route 14 at County Road 675 E, Hamilton County

WHEN:                      Nov. 12, 2021 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

VEHICLES:              Unit 1 – White Truck Tractor

                                    Unit 2 – Red Chevrolet Truck

                                   

DRIVERS:                 Unit 1 – Robert F. Weinbauer, a 72-year-old male from Benton, IL – Refused medical attention.

                                   

                                    Unit 2 – Matthew A. Lydick, a 48-year-old male from McLeansboro, IL – Airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries.

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 2 was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 14 at County Road 675 E.  Unit 2 had slowed down to speak to the driver of a vehicle that was following a pedestrian westbound on Illinois Route 14, in the same area. As the driver of Unit 2 was speaking with the driver of the other vehicle, Unit 1 rear-ended Unit 2. The driver of Unit 2 was airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries. The driver of Unit 1 refused medical attention. No further information will be disseminated at this time.

Mt. Carmel Woman Arrested On Domestic Battery Charge

On 10/29/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Ashley N. Whittler, age 26, for Domestic Battery, following an incident at her home in the 1900 block of N Cherry St. Officers were notified of allegations of domestic abuse to a family member of Whittler’s at which time an investigation began. Evidence to indicate Whittler had battered a family member was uncovered which lead to her arrest. Whittler was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Princeton Woman Faces Several Charges Following Traffic Stop

On 10/22/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Kelly L. Julian, age 50, of Princeton, Indiana, for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs following a public complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and observed a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code at which time the officer made a traffic stop in the 200 block of West 5th Street. Julian was found to be the driver and exhibited signs of impairment. A roadside sobriety test provided multiple clues to indicate impairment. Julian was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was processed for DUI-Drugs, Improper Lane Usage, and Operating Uninsured Vehicle. Julian was also issued a Lawrence County Failure to Appear Warrant. Julian was turned over to Wabash County Jail staff for processing at this time.

Lawrenceville Man Arrested On Child Porn Warrant

On 11/05/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Michael B. Edborg, age 41, of Lawrenceville, on a Lawrence County Warrant for Child Pornography. Edborg was located at the apartments located at 1230 N Walnut Street where he was taken into custody, transported to the Wabash County Jail and issued the warrant. Edborg was held on a $40,000 cash bond pending extradition back to Lawrence County.

Mt. Carmel Woman Arrested For DUI Following Public Complaint

On 11/03/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Tamara K. Humphrey, age 55, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Dispatch received a public complaint about a suspected impaired driver and provided the suspect vehicle information. Upon arrival, an officer located the suspect vehicle and observed multiple violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code. A traffic stop was conducted in the area of 13th & Walnut Street and Humphrey was found to be the driver. The officer found reason to suspect Humphrey had been consuming alcohol so roadside sobriety testing was completed. During testing, several clues to indicate impairment were observed and Humphrey was placed under arrest. Humphrey was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was processed for DUI, Improper Turn, and Operating Uninsured Vehicle. Humphrey was then turned over to Wabash County Jail staff for processing.

Wabash County Tax Bills Hitting Mailboxes

Wabash County Treasurer, Beverly McBride, would like to announce that the 2020 payable 2021 real estate taxes have been put into the mail.  If you have not received your bill by November 17th please contact our office.  The first installment will be due December 10, 2021 and the second installment will be due January 14, 2022.

As always you may pay at the Treasurer's office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  You may also pay at the following banks:  First Bank, First Mid Bank and First National Bank in Mt. Carmel and Allendale.  All of the banks have drive thru service available for your convenience.  We also have a drop box located in front of the courthouse that you may use and our mailing address is P.O. Box 428, Mt. Carmel, IL   62863.
