Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Warrant

12/07/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 29 year old Cameron B.S. Brown of Mt. Carmel after the arresting officer observed him walking in the area of 9th and Market Street.  The arresting officer knew Brown was wanted on a Wabash County warrant charging him with violation of conditional discharge.  Brown was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of $500.00.

Mt. Carmel Man Jail After Allegedly Choking Girlfriend

12/06/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 29 year old Vicente Melchor-Nabor of Mt. Carmel after police were called to a residence in the 200 block of W. 5th Street reference a domestic.  Police were told that Melchor-Nabor placed his hands on his girlfriend and choked her.  Police arrested Melchor-Nabor and charged him with one count of aggravated domestic battery.  Melchor-Nabor was held at the Wabash County Jail pending the setting and posting of bond.

Albion Man Taken To Hospital After Allegedly Swallowing Drugs Following Traffic Stop

12/06/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 31 year old Joshua L. Sloat of Albion after he was stopped by Mt. Carmel Police.  During the traffic stop it was discovered that Sloat was driving on a suspended driver's license.  Sloat was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was cited for driving while license is suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.  Sloat was released from jail without posting bond after it was believed he swallowed narcotics during the traffic stop.  Sloat was transported to Wabash General Hospital for care.  The condition of Sloat is unknown.  This case is still under investigation and further charges could be filed.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested On Criminal Trespass Charge

12/03/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 25 year old Tyler L. Wade of Mt. Carmel after police were notified that he was on the property of 1230 N. Walnut Street after being told to stay off the property.  Police located Wade in the 1000 block of Poplar Street and placed him under arrest.  Police transported Wade to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with criminal trespass to State supported property.  Wade was held pending the posting of $150.00 cash bond.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested Twice In A Week

12/03/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 46 year old Jeffery S. Parrish of Mt. Carmel after police found him at his residence in the 200 block of E. 13th Street.  Police knew that Parrish was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant and placed him under arrest.  Parrish was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of bond. 

12/05/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 46 year old Jeffery S. Parrish of Mt. Carmel after police observed him operating a motor vehicle in the area of 13th and Mulberry Street.  Police knew Parrish was operating the motor vehicle on a suspended driver's license and initiated a vehicle stop.  Parrish was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with driving while license is suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

New Solar Powered Stop Signs Installed On College Drive

New solar powered stop signs were installed today on College Drive at the Park Road intersection.

The intersection has been the scene of several serious accidents including one last month in addition to many near misses. The issue was brought to light to city officials by Christine Keepes who lives in that area and witnessed many of the problems. She took to Facebook and talked to city officials pushing the lighted stop signs which were installed today.

Beall Woods' Jacque Cullison Wins Big Award

CHICAGO – Beth Gehrke, of Kane County, Jon and Kim Chamberlain who volunteer in Henry and Rock Island counties, and Jacque Cullison of Edwards County, were presented the 2018 Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (IAITC) Volunteer of the Year Award. The award was presented during Illinois Farm Bureau’s annual meeting in Chicago Dec. 1-4.

Beth Gehrke, of Elgin, is active on the AITC advisory committee and has been for more than 15 years. Each year, Gehrke plays a part in impacting nearly 20,000 students, teachers and community members through the Kane County Ag Days, SPROUTS third grade program, Summer Ag Institute and Touch a Tractor program. 

Jon and Kim Chamberlain, who reside in Henry County, have been involved in Henry and Rock Island AITC programs for more than 13 years. Beginning with Young Leader classroom presentations, the Chamberlain’s passion for agriculture branched out to presenting at the annual AgXperience and now includes hosting multiple Henry County preschool and elementary classrooms on their farm to show their love of agriculture.

Jacque Cullison, from Albion, has been involved with the Edward County Farm Bureau AITC program for more than 10 years. She has served as an advocate for agriculture at the Autumn Adventure, Field Trips to Beall Woods, County Safety and Conservation Days, as well as coordinator of tree and pollinator plantings across Edwards County. She is a nine-year member of the Edwards County Advisory Council and her work the Department of Natural Resources continues to make an impact on agriculture. 

The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Volunteer of the Year award recognizes county volunteers who have done an outstanding job with Agriculture in the Classroom and agriculture literacy efforts. Since 1983, 94 individuals have been recognized for contributions to agriculture literacy.

ISP TRAFFIC FATAL CRASH ALERT

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police

WHAT: 2 Unit Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE: I-74 Westbound at MP 137 WHEN: 12/5/2018 at 8:32 p.m.

VEHICLES: Unit 1- Blue 2010 Kenworth Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer

Unit 2- School Bus

DRIVERS: Unit 1- Male, 34, Iowa (deceased)

Unit 2- Male, IL

PASSENGER: Unit 2- Charles Crabtree, Male, 72, Normal, IL (deceased)

Unit 2- Male, IL Unit 2- Eight female passengers, juveniles, IL

PRELIMINARY: Illinois State Police District 6 are currently on scene of a two-unit fatal traffic crash on I-74 westbound at MP 137. Preliminary reports indicate Unit 1 was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-74. Unit 2 was traveling westbound at the same location. Unit 1 struck Unit 2 head-on. Unit 2 was loaded with passengers. There is currently one confirmed fatality on the bus. Due to the traffic crash investigation, westbound lanes are closed at this location. Westbound traffic is being rerouted at Downs, IL. The traffic crash is currently under investigation by Traffic Crash Reconstruction Officers and Commercial Motor Vehicle Officers. Zone 5 Investigations are on scene at local area hospitals. Three adults were transported via helicopter to area hospitals. All female passengers were transported via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Next of kin notifications are pending for the driver of Unit 1. Additional updates will be given this morning.

Crystal Meth Investigation Results In Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Woman

On 12/05/2018, the Mt. Carmel Police went to the residence of 34 year old April L. Swanson and placed her under arrest for delivery of methamphetamine, a class 2 felony.  The arrest of Swanson was a result of an undercover narcotics investigation conducted by the Mt. Carmel Police Department.  This investigation started in the Summer of 2018 and targeted those selling crystal methamphetamine within the City of Mt. Carmel.  The investigation is ongoing with the anticipation of more arrests.  Swanson was transported to the Wabash County Jail and is being held pending the posting of $4,000.00 cash.

WHERE:  Interstate 70 East at Mile Post 154 (Clark County)

WHEN: 12/05/2018 at 7:08 A.M.

VEHICLES: Unit #1 - 2000 White Chevrolet Astro Van

DRIVER: Unit #1 – Jeffrey Reiland, Age 72, Pennsylvania

PASSENGERS: None

TRANSPORTS: Unit #1 -Driver was transported by Marshall Ambulance to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.

CHARGES: None

PRELIMINARY:  Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 1 was traveling East on Interstate 70 near milepost 154 just East of Marshall, IL. Unit 1 lost control on an ice covered overpass and left the roadway, entering the median and overturning numerous times.
