MCPD Arrest Mt. Carmel Man On Criminal Damage Charge

09/13/2018-Mt. Carmel Police were called to the 1300 block of Cherry Street in reference to a male subject under the influence causing a disturbance.  Police located 49 year old Mark D. Crouch of Mt. Carmel.  The reporting officer reported that it appeared Crouch was under the influence of unknown narcotic and during his episode he knocked over a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle.  Police found him crouched down beside the motorcycle when they arrived on scene.  Crouch was arrested for allegedly causing damage to the said motorcycle. Crouch was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he charged with criminal damage to property. Crouch was held pending the posting of bond.

Mt. Carmel Man Jailed On Domestic Battery Charge

09/12/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 57 year old Glen D. Stoops of Mt. Carmel.   Stoops was arrested after police were called to Jumpin Jimmy's at 9th and Market Street reference a disturbance.  Police were told that Stoops struck two family members.  Stoops was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with one count of domestic battery and one count of battery.  Stoops was held pending the posting of $500.00 cash.

Traffic Stop Leads To Charges Against Mt. Carmel Man

09/11/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 54 year old Timothy C. Mason of Mt. Carmel after he was stopped by police in the 1200 block of Cherry Street.  During the traffic stop it was discovered that Mason was driving on a revoked driver's license.  Mason was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was cited for driving while revoked, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and he was given a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.  Mason was released after posting bond.

MCPD Arrest Missouri Man For Violating Order of Protection

09/10/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 19 year old Dalton T. Scott of Jackson, Missouri after it is alleged he violated an order of protection.  Scott is accused of being within 500 feet of a protected person.  Mt. Carmel Police on patrol spotted Scott driving the wrong way in the 200 block of W. 2nd Street.  Police stopped the vehicle and discovered he was in violation of the order of protection.  Scott was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of bond.

2018 MCHS Homecoming Court

Mt. Carmel High School will begin celebrating Homecoming Monday, September 17, 2018.  The Student Council has chosen the following themes to celebrate the annual event:

Monday – Color War

                 Seniors wear Red

                 Juniors wear White

                 Sophomores wear Black

                 Freshmen wear Blue

Tuesday – Twin Tuesday

Wednesday – Animal Day

Thursday – Jersey Day

Friday- Maroon and Gold Day

A pep assembly will be held Friday, September 21 at approximately 11:30 a.m.  Homecoming Queen candidates, Homecoming Court attendants, and the escorts will be introduced.  Other activities include the traditional class float competition. Class float and gym decoration winners will be announced.

The Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime at the football game Friday, September 21, when the Golden Aces challenge the Washington Hatchets.  

The Homecoming parade will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Friday with all entries lining up on 3rd Street between Plum and Pear Streets.  This year’s theme will be Disney Movies.  Anyone wishing to have an entry in the parade may pick up an entry form in the MCHS main office.  Completed forms should be returned to the office by 3:30 Thursday, September 20.


The Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, September 22 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.  All MCHS students and approved guests are invited. Dress is semi-formal. Admission prices $5 per person.


All Homecoming activities are planned and sponsored by the MCHS Student Council.  We invite all MCHS students, faculty, alumni and friends of the Golden Aces to continue the rich traditions of Golden Aces pride by participating in Homecoming Week.

City Council Addresses Fall Leaf Pickup Situation

Leaf season is just around the corner and the city is already fielding inquiries about what residents should do with their leaves. At Monday’s City Council meeting, Marshall Thomason, who lives in the 300 block of East 9th Street, asked the council what plans are in place after the leaf vac program was discontinued last year because of budget constraints.. Thomason said he has too many leaves to dispose of on his own. Street Commissioner Eric Ikemire offered Thomason a couple of options…

Mayor Bill Hudson quickly shot down Thomason’s request to allow leaf burning this fall…

 Commissioners said they would look into Thomason’s situation to see if something might be done.

City Council Brings Back Market Street Facade Improvement Program

Businesses along Market Street are again being offered the opportunity to update their building’s facades with help from the city. City Clerk Rudy Witsman got the okay from the city council Monday night to offer money from the city’s TIF fund to match up to $1,000 for the work. It’s the second time the city has offered the program and Witsman said he has fielded inquiring from businesses interested in the program. The city will reimburse the businesses for the improvements with a cap of $1,000. Applications for the program are available from city hall.
