Mt. Carmel Man Arrested For Driving Drunk On Market Street

On 7/30/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested William D. Calvin, age 37, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.  Dispatch advised received a complaint from the public concerning a suspected intoxicated driver that nearly struck a building in the 700 block of N Market Street.  An officer located the suspect vehicle, a silver GMC truck, on West 9th Street.  The officer observed the vehicle strike the curb multiple times as well as the vehicle running off the road.  A traffic stop was conducted in the 900 block of West 9th Street where Calvin was found to be the driver.  After a roadside investigation was conducted the officer placed Calvin under arrest for DUI.  Calvin was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending the posting of bond.

Mt. Carmel woman arrested on DUI charge

On July 30, 2018, at 6:44 p.m. Gibson County Special Deputy Zach Lienemann observed three cars stopped on State Road 64 near County Road 400 West. Upon approaching the vehicles one of the vehicles left the area. As Deputy Lienemann approached the other vehicles the drivers of those vehicles advised that the third vehicle had driven off the roadway and into a cornfield. The other motorists told Deputy Lienemann that they had simply stopped to make sure that the driver was ok. Deputy Lienemann then followed the vehicle that had left the scene and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Lienemann detected the odor of alcohol coming from the driver 67 year old Rita Nash of Mount Carmel. At that point with the assistance of Deputy Jennifer Robb Deputy Lienemann conducted a roadside DUI investigation. At the conclusion of his investigation Ms. Nash was placed in custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving Ms. Nash was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. She has since posted a $750 bond. 

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CHARGES: Driver Unit #1 – Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash

TRANSPORTS: Unit #1 – Driver was transported to Fayette County Hospital by Fayette County Ambulance

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigation shows that Unit #1 was traveling I-70 eastbound at the milepost 61 exit ramp. The driver of Unit #1 was distracted from outside of the vehicle and did not see the Unit #2 truck tractor semi-trailer stopped near the top of the ramp. Unit #1 struck the rear of Unit #2 and was transported by EMS to the Fayette County Hospital with minor injuries. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

District #348 School Board Makes Personnel Moves Before New School Year

At a special meeting last night, the Wabash District #348 made some last minute personnel moves before the new school year starts two weeks from tomorrow.

The board hired Alyson Hicks as special education coordinator and assistant principal in a new position starting tomorrow.

The board also hired Crystal Dulgar as elementary school special ed paraprofessional replacing Matt McCarty who transferred to a 2nd grade title paraprofessional.

Other moves last night included hiring Laura Garrett as an elementary school individual aide replacing Robin Jones who resigned and Diana Kieffer in a new position as a kindergarten title assistant.

PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicated Unit 1 crossed the center lane boundary and rear ended the trailer of Unit 2 on I-57 north bound 2.5 miles north of Farina.

MCPD Arrests Man For Driving On Suspended License

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 56 year old William M. Morris of Mt. Carmel after the vehicle he was driving was stopped by the Mt. Carmel Police Department.  During the traffic stop it was discovered that Morris was operating the motor vehicle on a suspended driver's license.  Morris was issued a citation and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of $150.00 cash bond.

Princeton Man Picked Up On Wabash County FTA Warrant

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 33 year old Austen D. Wardell of Princeton, Indiana after seeing him in the area of 5th Street and Pear Street.  The arresting officer knew that Wardell was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant.  Wardell was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was served the warrant and held pending the posting of $300.00 cash bond.

Woman Arrested On FTA Arrest

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 29 year old Tammie L. Duvall of Mt. Carmel after police observed her in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked at 330 N. Walnut Street.  The arresting officer knew Duvall was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant.  Police arrested Duvall and transported her to the Wabash County Jail where she was served the warrant and held pending the posting of $200.00 cash bond.

Froman Drive Incident Leads To Arrest

Mt. Carmel Police were called to 111 Froman Drive early Sunday morning reference a man with a knife threatening a female.  Police arrived on scene and were told that 27 year old Kendly Baptiste of Mt. Carmel threw a knife at a female subject with whom he lives with at this residence.  It was also alleged that he used his hands to strike the female victim.  Police arrested Baptiste and transported him to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault.  Baptiste is being held pending the setting and posting of bond.   The victim did not require medical attention.

Man Jailed On Aggravated Battery Charge

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 25 year old Brandon L. Garrett of Mt. Carmel after police were notified that he struck a 15 year old male in the head.  Police were told that Garrett jumped from a vehicle and chased the juvenile down an alley in the 800 block of Poplar Street.  It is alleged that Garrett caught up to the juvenile and struck him in the back of the head with his fist.  Garrett told police the incident was a result of a previous incident the victim had with Garrett's son.  Garrett was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.  Garrett was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he is awaiting the setting and posting of bond.
