City To Proceed With Street Light Project

THE BAD NEWS IS : THE CITY OF MT. CARMEL DID NOT GET APPROVED

BY THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THEIR COMBINED

SIDEWALK RE-PAVING AND STREET LIGHT POLE REPLACEMENT GRANT.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THE STREET LIGHT PART OF THE PROJECT WILL PROCEED.

THE POLES HAVE BEEN ORDERED AND INSTALLATION WILL CONTINUE

THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER.

MT. CARMEL WAS ONE OF 218 GRANT APPLICANTS.

53 IDOT GRANTS WERE AWARDED FOR A TOTAL OF 35 MILLION 700 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Wabash County Board Of Commissioners Notes

Mobile home taxes aren’t due until July 6th, but Treasurer Beverly McBride told Wabash County commissioners Monday that 18-percent have already paid up, or 5700-hundred dollars received. Almost 32-thousand dollars was the total of taxes extended for mobile homes this year, according to McBride.

The Wabash County Board Monday to accept the resignation of long-time Truant Officer Bea Morgan, effective May 31st. County chair Rob Dean said he recently spokes with Morgan concerning her job, and has a better idea of what the board needs to look for in a successor. No timetable for naming a replacement was announced at the meeting.

The Wabash County Health Department is planning two important summer events. The first is a blood drive on June 7th at First Baptist Church. Health department administrator Judy Wissel said it is turning into a “Battle of the Badges” as well, with police and fire personnel competing to see who can line up the most blood donations. The other event is a Back to School Bash on July 19th at the Health Department office. Doctor will be on hand to oversee back to school immunization shots for those who need it, in addition to other activities.

2018 Property Tax Timetable Looks To Be Similar To Last Year

WABASH COUNTY ASSESSOR DEBBIE GITTINGS TOLD THE COUNTY BOARD THIS WEEK THAT IT LOOKS LIKE HER OFFICE IS ON A TIMETABLE SIMILAR TO LAST YEAR FOR GETTING TAXES READY. A PUBLICATION LIST HAS ALREADY BEEN SENT TO THE NEWSPAPER TO BE PUBLISHED. SHE TOLD COMMISSIONERS THAT FOR PLANNING PURPOSES, THE BOARD OF REVIEW COULD BE HEARING APPEALS DURING THE THIRD WEEK OF JUNE. LAST YEAR, THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF TAXES WAS DUE NOVEMBER 3RD WITH THE SECOND INSTALLMENT DUE ON DECEMBER 1ST.

Two Ohio Residents Sent To Hospital Following I-70 Accident

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12
  
WHAT:  Injury Crash  
 
WHERE:   I-70 W/B at milepost 82 exit ramp, Altamont, IL
 
WHEN:  05/26/18 at 7:59 PM  
 
VEHICLES:  Unit #1 – Black 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo    

DRIVER:  Unit #1 – Dridra L. Riven 41, of Toledo, OH.        

PASSENGER: Unit #1 – 15 year old male Juvenile, of Toledo, OH. 
 
CHARGES:               Driver of Unit #1 was cited for improper lane usage and operating an                                                                                                            uninsured motor vehicle.    

              PRELIMINARY:   Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 1 was westbound on I-70 attempting to exit at milepost 82 exit ramp.  Unit #1 lost control on the exit ramp, left the roadway, struck the ditch embankment, and overturned.  Unit #1 came to rest on its roof to the left of the roadway.  Driver and passenger of Unit #1 were both transported to St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.

Wreck On I-70 Claims Life Of Missouri Man

ISP TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State
Police District 12

WHAT:   Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:  I-70 E/B at mile post 91 (1 mile west of Effingham)

WHEN:   May 23rd 10:50 a.m.

VEHICLES:               Unit #1 -1997 Ford F150

DRIVER:         Unit #1 Driver -72 year old George William Stillman from
Saint Charles, Missouri

PRELIMINARY:    Stillman was traveling westbound on I-70 near mile post 91
when for unknown reasons he entered the median and then turned around at
the median turn around.  Stillman then started traveling eastbound on I-70
near mile post 91 where he lost control of his vehicle and entered the
ditch on the south side of I-70.  Stillman overturned multiple times.
Stillman was totally ejected from the pickup truck.  Stillman was
pronounced deceased at the scene by the Effingham County Coroner.

Sleepy Driver Wrecks On I-64

ISP DISTRICT 19 TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT


The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 19:  
 
WHAT:   Personal Injury Traffic Crash


WHERE:    Interstate 64, eastbound, at approximately the 114½ Mile Post      (Wayne County) 
 
WHEN:   05/24/2018, at approximately 7:23 am


VEHICLES:   White, 2002, Toyota Tundra        

DRIVERS:   Lindsay L. Horton, age 29, of Paradise, Texas
 
PASSENGERS:  None
 
CAUSE:   Reportedly tired / asleep driver. 


TRANSPORTS:  Horton was transported from the crash scene via Air Evac to a regional hospital. 


ROAD CONDITIONS: Open  


PRELIMINARY:  According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of the 2002 Toyota Tundra, Lindsay L. Horton, was eastbound on Interstate 64 in rural Wayne County, when she reportedly fell asleep and left the south side of the roadway, overcorrected, and then lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle overturned numerous times before coming to rest on all four tires.  Horton was transported from the crash scene by Air Evac to a regional hospital for injuries she sustained in the crash.  Horton’s pet, a Chocolate Labrador puppy, was injured and transported by the Fairfield Rural Fire Department to a local veterinarian. 


    ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Wayne County Ambulance Service, Fairfield Rural Fire Department, Air Evac, and Rick’s Towing Service.     


CHARGES:   None

Passenger Killed When Vehicle Rear Ends IDOT Dump Truck On I-70

WHAT:  Fatal Crash  
 
WHERE:   I-70 W/B @ Milepost 143, Approximately 4 miles west of Marshall. 
 
WHEN:  09:50 AM 05/24/2018   
 
VEHICLES:  Unit #1 – 2006 White Chevrolet Blazer      

Unit #2 – 2006 Illinois Dept. of Transportation Dump Truck      

DRIVER:  Unit #1 – Suzette Ann Ashbaugh 45, of Ellsworth, KS.    

Unit #2 – Alan W. Dorjahn 57, of Mattoon, IL.              

PASSENGERS:

Unit #1 – Joann R. Ashbaugh 24, of Ellsworth, KS.    

Unit #1 – Kelsea Glenn Cline 28, of Columbus, OH - FATAL            

CHARGES:  Unit #1 Driver – Improper lane usage, Failure to yield to a stationary authorized emergency vehicle (Scott’s Law)    

TRANSPORTS: The driver of Unit 1 and front seat passenger were airlifted to Carle Hospital.  The backseat passenger was transported to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.  Cline was pronounced deceased at Carle on 05/25/2018 as a result of the injuries sustained from the crash. 
 
PRELIMINARY:   Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 1 was westbound on I-70 at milepost 143 just west of Marshall in Clark Co. when she left the roadway to the right, entering the shoulder, and striking the rear of an IDOT truck that was parked along the shoulder.  After striking the IDOT truck, Unit 1 veered off into the ditch on the north side of I-70 where it came to rest.

WHERE:   Spring Creek Rd. at I-70 westbound exit ramp, north of Montrose. 
 
WHEN:  7:57AM, 05/25/2018   
 
VEHICLES:  Unit #1 – 2014 Maroon Chevrolet Silverado      Unit #2 – 2005 White GMC Yukon      

DRIVER:  Unit #1 – Carlin L. Webster 78, of Ypsilanti, MI.    Unit #2 – Megan Zike 28, of Montrose, IL.              

PASSENGERS:  
 
CHARGES:  Unit #1 – Failure to Yield Right of Way     TRANSPORTS: The driver of Unit 2 was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham. 
 
PRELIMINARY:   Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 2 was northbound on Spring Creek Rd, when Unit 1 failed to yield right of way upon making a left turn from the exit ramp of I-70 westbound at Montrose onto Spring Creek Rd.
