ISP ISSUES SAFETY AWARENESS AHEAD OF UPCOMING PROM AND GRADUATION SEASON
Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 officials are reminding young drivers to think responsibly as they celebrate during the upcoming prom and graduation season. Our primary safety message is in the word PROM which asks teens to “Please Return On Monday.”
Now that prom and graduation season is upon us, area high school students will soon be participating in celebrations that occur not only at school but at private locations. During the next couple of weeks, ISP District 19 Troopers will be conducting high visibility patrols with aggressive enforcement of the Fatal Four violations: DUI, Speeding, Seat Belt, and Distracted Driving, with an emphasis on DUI violations.
“We understand that prom and graduation celebrations are very exciting times for our area high school students and their families, but we also know this can be a very dangerous time for young drivers,” stated ISP District 19 Captain Cory Ristvedt. “With that in mind, please enjoy yourselves and the positive memories that will be made over the next several weeks, but make your celebrations safe by avoiding the use of alcohol and drugs,” he added.
We want to modify teen driving behaviors which include distractions, carelessness, fatigue, and inexperience. These behaviors, when combined with drugs or alcohol, can be lethal. Car crashes kill more teens during the weekends of prom and graduation season than any other time of year.
Seat Belt Enforcement Zones will also be conducted in addition to directed patrols. The goal of these concentrated efforts is voluntary compliance. With the motoring public’s assistance, we can help ensure this year’s prom and graduation memories are positive ones. Think responsibly, put the phone down, buckle up, and don’t use alcohol or drugs.

Work Continues On Water Tower
Crews continue to refurbish the water tower near College Drive. Crews started last month painting and repairing the water tower near Wabash Valley College. Since the work started, residents have noticed a drop in their water pressure. At this past Monday's City Council meeting, Water Commissioner Justin Dulgar said the 6 to 8 week project is half complete. Last August, the city of Mt. Carmel entered into a 10 year, $1.725 million agreement with a company to rehabilitate the 3rd Street and WVC water towers. The work will be paid for by last year’s increase in water rates. The proposal calls for the installation of a new wash out system in both towers along with completely rehabbing and painting of each one.

WGH Board Reveals Master Facility Plan Proposal
Plans could be in the works to give Mt. Carmel residents with Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance another option to get their prescription medication. Part of the proposed master facility plan being developed by Wabash General Hospital includes the expansion of the pharmacy at WGH since Mt. Carmel’s only retail pharmacy, CVS, does not accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance. Currently, the WGH pharmacy is only available to hospital in-patients.
The proposed plans call for a two-step process with step one being retail pharmacy services to WGH employees this summer with step two expanding the pharmacy services further at a to be determined date.
Other projects in the report presented to the hospital board of directors this week include possibly relocating WGH’s convenient care off campus; continue to grow the orthopedics and primary care and family practice areas.
No action has been taken by the board so far on any of the projects included in the plan developed. At the January board meeting, CEO Jay Purvis said the growth of the hospital has caused a space crisis that needed to be solved sooner than later.
