Driver Attempts to Flee on Foot from Traffic Stop

Putnam County—This afternoon at 3:44, Indiana State Police Trooper Colton Maynor was patrolling US 231 near County Road 925 South (Cloverdale), when he noticed a southbound green 1996 Toyota Camry travel left of center. Prior to stopping the vehicle, Trooper Maynor noticed the license plate was obstructed by dirt and grime rendering it unreadable.

Trooper Maynor activated his emergency lighting to stop the vehicle, and the driver drove onto an auto parts store just south of 925S. As he approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, Trooper Maynor noticed a smell of what appeared to be burnt Marijuana coming from within the Toyota. As Maynor returned to his police vehicle to run a driver’s license query, the male driver bolted from the vehicle and ran southeast toward a nearby car wash with Trooper Maynor in foot pursuit.  As the suspect ran behind the car wash, he tossed a plastic bag containing syringes, scales, grinder, rolling papers and a spoon used for illegal drugs activity. Right after tossing the bag, the suspect was apprehended by Trooper Maynor and arriving Cloverdale Police Officers.

The suspect was identified as Philip M. Reed, age 38, of Cloverdale, IN. Reed was transported to the Putnam County Jail on preliminary charges of Habitual Traffic Violator, DUI-Refusal, Resisting Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana (Prior), Dealing Marijuana, Possession of a Syringe, and Possession of Paraphernalia. 

Assisting were ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers Matt Ames and Yan Dravigne, Cloverdale Police Sergeant Bill Wallace, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. 

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

I-70 Traffic Stop Yields Large Marijuana Seizure

Morgan County, IN- A trooper looking beyond a routine traffic stop this afternoon in Morgan County was able to stop a large shipment of alleged marijuana from arriving to its destination on the east coast.

This afternoon at approximately 12:50 p.m. a trooper with the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Uniform Squad was patrolling I-70 EB at the 51mm (Little Point exit) and stopped a 2017 box truck for a traffic violation.

While speaking with the driver, Joshua Monte Wilson, 28, of Temecula, CA. the trooper noted inconsistencies that indicated possible criminal activity. A search was conducted which resulted in the seizure of 240 pounds of marijuana, 11.5 pounds of THC oil, and two pounds of THC wax.

Wilson was arrested for Level V Dealing and Possession of Marijuana, over 10 pounds. He was incarcerated in the Morgan County Jail without incident.

Louisiana Man Arrested By WCSO

 

On 01/02/18 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep driven by 26 year old Henry A. Thomas of St. Amant, Louisiana. Thomas was found to be driving on  a suspended Louisiana license.  Thomas was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with driving suspended and the speeding offense.  Thomas posted a $150 cash bond and was released.

Funkhouser Arrested On Numerous Charges

On 01/01/18 at 2127 hrs. the Wabash County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop at Wabash 6 Av.e and N 600 Blvd. on a Ford pickup for not having any taillights. Following that stop it was found that the driver, 54 year old Scott A. Funkhouser of Mt. Carmel was non-complaint as registering as a violent offender against youth. Funkhouser was taken into custody and with the help of K9 Ace and Officer Hopper Funkhouser was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.  Funkhouser was taken to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with the above.  Funkhouser's bond was set at $2000 cash and he remains in the Wabash County Jail.

Seibert Faces Meth Charge

On 01/03/18 at 9:44pm Mt. Carmel Police arrested 23 year old West Salem, IL resident Coleton E.D. Seibert for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia following a traffic stop on a gray Toyota on outer N Cherry Street of which Seibert was a passenger in. The officer requested Ofc. Daniel Hopper and his K-9 “Ace” to respond as well. Once Ofc. Hopper arrived he conducted a free air narcotics sniff around the exterior of the Toyota vehicle. “Ace” alerted on the vehicle for the presence of illegal drugs so a search was conducted. In doing so the arresting officer located suspected methamphetamine in the area of which Seibert was seated as well as on his person. Seibert was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Seibert was charged and held pending bond setting by a judge.

West Salem Woman Arrested On Drug Charge

On 01/03/18 at 3:51pm Mt. Carmel arrested 49 year old West Salem, IL resident Angela K. Edwards for Possession of a Controlled Substance following a traffic stop in the 100 block of W 4th Street. Edwards was operating a red Ford truck and had committed a traffic violation. The arresting officer requested Ofc. Daniel Hopper and his K-9 “Ace” to respond as well. Once Ofc. Hopper arrived he conducted a free air narcotics sniff around the exterior of Edwards’ vehicle. “Ace” alerted on the vehicle for the presence of illegal drugs. A search was conducted where officers located several different types of prescribed medication that are controlled substances. Edwards did not have documentation that these medications were prescribed by a doctor to her and she was placed under arrest. Edwards was taken to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

2 Arrested On FTA Warrants After Woman Shows Up At MCPD

On 01/01/18 at 5:49pm Mt. Carmel Police arrested two Mt. Carmel women on outstanding warrants for their arrest. Nicole I. Kimpling, age 29, came to the police department to file a complaint when officers discovered Kimpling had a Wabash County Failure to Appear Warrant for her arrest. Kimpling was taken to the Wabash County Jail and issued the warrant for her arrest. Kimpling’s bond was $200 cash. Officers then followed up on the complaint which led them to have contact with a Sheila J. Ryker, age 54, at a residence in the 100 block of W 8th Street. Ryker had an active Richland County IL warrant for her arrest for Failure to Appear. Ryker was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Ryker’s warrant had a bond of $10,075 cash. Both women were held pending the posting of bond.

Pair Arrested After Traffic Stop

On 01/01/18 at 4:15pm Mt. Carmel Police arrested two Mt. Carmel residents following a traffic stop on a red Jeep on Oak Street at Willow Swamp Rd. Derek L. Batterton, age 34, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended and No Insurance. His passenger, David A. Reed, age 56, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Hypodermic Syringe and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both were transported to the Wabash County Jail where Batterton was charged and held on a $200 cash bond while Reed was charged and held on a $2000 cash bond.
