The Voice Auditions In Indy Next Month

 If you think you can sing like Josh Kaufman of Indianapolis, you can audition for "The Voice" after the first of next year.

The try-outs are scheduled for Jan. 14 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. But, you have to be invited first to audition by signing up at NBCTheVoice.com.

Kaufman won Season 6 of "The Voice", and 16-year-old Addison Agen (AYE-gun) of Fort Wayne is one of the top 12 contestants this season.

Pot By Mail Scheme Fails

An attempt to send pot through the mail was foiled in Evansville. Police say 22-year-old Kyn Pegue called the post office about a package and the office said it could be picked up at his discretion. However, postal workers called police first because they could smell raw marijuana coming from inside the package. The gave Pegue the package and police officers met him as he walked out of the post office and arrested him for drug possession. Police say the package was carrying over four pounds of marijuana.

Vincennes Murder Trial Postponed Again

 A Vincennes murder trial has been pushed back for a third time. Court documents say 53-year-old Robert Baldwin was originally set to appear in court this week. He is accused of killing his five-year-old son Gabriel in April. Baldwin faces charges of murder, strangulation and domestic battery. The documents say Baldwin's attorney has asked for a change in venue, with arguments and testimony re-scheduled for January. The Knox County Prosecutor is seeking life without parole.

District #348 Superintendent Search Moves Forward

The Wabash District #348 school board will get its’ first look Monday night at the recommended pool of candidates applying to be the next superintendent. The school board is spending $7,900 to have the Illinois Association of School Boards perform the search to replace the retiring Tim Buss. The IASB’s Jim Helton has been narrowing down the list of candidates since the application deadline past on November 27th. Monday night, the school board is expected to choose which candidates they will interview the week of December 18th. After that, the board will narrow the field even further for a second round of interviews on January 23rd with the board officially hiring the new superintendent at their February meeting. The new superintendent will start next July 1st as Buss bows out.

Illinois Firearm Season Preliminary Harvest Totals 80,021 Deer

Wabash County hunters killed 205 deer this year compared to 209 in 2016.

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Hunters harvested a preliminary total of 80,021 deer during the seven-day Illinois Firearm Deer Season that concluded on Sunday, Dec. 3. The 2017 preliminary harvest total compares to the final total of 79,559 deer harvested during the firearm season in 2016. 

The preliminary harvest for the second segment of the firearm season on Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 was 28,656, compared with 24,977 during the second season in 2016.  The preliminary harvest for the first segment of firearm season on Nov. 17-19 was 51,365 deer. 

Deer hunting opportunities remain available in Illinois during the remainder of the 2017-18 season: 

• The Illinois Muzzleloader-only Season is this weekend, Dec. 8-10. 
• The Late-Winter Antlerless-Only Season and CWD Deer Season first segments (in designated counties only) will be Dec. 28-31. 
• The second segments of the Late-Winter Antlerless-Only and CWD Deer Seasons (in designated counties only) will be Jan. 12-14, 2018. 
• Archery Deer Season continues through Jan. 14, 2018.

Mt. Carmel's Andrew Wise Honored By Decatur PD

Today, Decatur Police Chief James Getz, Jr. presented Andrew Wise with a Certificate of Appreciation. On November 6th, Mr. Wise observed a 14 year old female steal a purse from a 94 year old lady in the parking lot of the Kroger, 1401 W. King Street in Decatur. Mr. Wise chased down the juvenile and recovered the purse. The juvenile was arrested on scene by Decatur Police. Andrew is a sophomore at Millikin University and part of the wrestling team there.

VEHICLES: Unit #1 – White 1995 Freightliner Truck Tractor

Unit #2 – White 2015 Mack Truck Tractor

DRIVER: Unit #1 – Yosniel Varela-Mojena, 28 of Millville, NJ

Unit #2 – Shawn M. Montgomery, 49, of Saint Peters, MO

CHARGES: Unit #1 Cited for improper lane usage

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit #2 was stopped on the right shoulder of I-70 near milepost 113. The driver of Unit #2 was outside the truck when Unit #2 trailer and driver were struck by Unit #1. Driver of Unit #1 stated he saw Unit #2 and looked down. When he looked up, he was unable to avoid striking Unit #2. Driver of Unit #1 was cited for improper lane usage. The tractor of Unit #1 became detached from the trailer. Trailer of Unit #1 came to rest in the center median. Unit #2 moved slightly but remained on the right shoulder. Driver of Unit #1 was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
