VEHICLES: Unit #1 – White 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Unit #2 – Black 2012 Dodge Caravan

OCCUPANTS: Unit #1 Driver – Danny spencer Hurrenn, 40, Vandalia IL

Unit #2 Driver - Richard W. Matlock, 50, Effingham IL

PASSENGERS: Unit #1 – Beth A. Stroup, 33, Vandalia IL

CHARGES: Driver Unit #1 – Failure to Reduce Speed To Avoid an Accident

TRANSPORTS: Driver Unit #2 was transported by Rural Med to Fayette County Hospital

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigation shows that Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Rt 40 behind unit #2. Unit #2 had his flashers on and a oscillating amber light on top of his his vehicle. Unit #2 had stopped to deliver mail and was just starting to merge back into traffic at a slow speed when the front passenger side of unit #1 struck the rear driver side of unit #2.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

FNB Wins RMC Spirit of Christmas Award

This morning, members of the Wabash County Retail Merchants Committee presented First National Bank with the Spirit of Christmas award. The award is presented annually to the business that is judged on Theme – any Christmas Theme, Lights, Music, and just all-around friendliness. “Secret Santa’s” went around to judge participating merchants.

The award caps off a big year for the First National Bank in 2017 as they also captured the large Business of the Year award and the Best of Parade award in last weekend's Christmas parade.

Dean Elected Chairman Of Wabash County Board

Rob Dean is the new man in charge of the Wabash County Board. He was elected to a one-year term of chairman Monday by the other two commissioners on the board. Dean will serve as chairman for the third time. He replaces Tim Hocking, who served for the last year. Dean will also inherit a spot on the A-E-A Board as well. Commissioners also approved their board and committee assignments for the year ahead.

Mt. Carmel Woman Arrested For Possession of Meth

On 12/02/17 at 8:32pm Mt. Carmel Police arrested 30 year old Mt. Carmel resident Ashley N. Pierson for Possession of Methamphetamine following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of N Cherry Street. Pierson was a passenger in a gold Nissan passenger car when it was stopped for a traffic violation. During the stop K-9 Officer Daniel Hopper arrived with his dog “Ace”. Ofc. Hopper conducted a free air narcotics sniff of the exterior of the Nissan with “Ace”. This resulted in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search was conducted which resulted in a mirror being found with a significant amount of white residue on it. A field test on the white residue showed it positive for Methamphetamine. The mirror was located in a purse in front of Pierson which led to her arrest. Pierson was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she is being held pending bond setting by a judge.

Multiple Charges Filed Against Robinson Man

On 12/02/17 at 08:51am Mt. Carmel Police arrested 33 year old Robinson, IL resident Christopher A. Shaffer for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia as well as a Lawrence County Illinois Warrant for his arrest for Unlawful Possession of Weapon by Felon. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of N Cherry Street regarding an unwanted person. Once officers arrived they located the unwanted person, Shaffer, seated in a white Chevy SUV parked behind the residence. Contact was made with Shaffer and he was placed under arrest in reference to the warrant. When officers checked the immediate area where Shaffer was seated they found suspected methamphetamine, the controlled substance Alprazolam as well as a glass smoking pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue inside it. Shaffer was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was issued the above mentioned charges and warrant. Shaffer is being held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Mt. Carmel Man Charged With Driving While Suspended

On 12/01/17 at 09:44am Mt. Carmel Police arrested 33 year old Mt. Carmel resident Ramiro X. Xolo for Driving While License Suspended when an officer observed him operating a blue Dodge van on 3rd Street at Bellmont Street. Xolo was stopped and placed under arrest. Xolo was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and later released on a $150 cash bond.

Driving While Revoked Charge Filed

On 11/30/17 at 9:24pm Mt. Carmel Police arrested 21 year old Mt. Carmel resident Brandon K. Trost for Driving While License Revoked. Trost was stopped in the 300 block of N Walnut Street following a traffic violation. Trost was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was issued citations for Driving While Revoked and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol. Trost is being held on a $150 cash bond.
