Report Of Suspicious Person Leads To Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Man On DUI Charge

On 3/9/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Thomas A. Woodyard, age 45, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Woodyard was reported by the public as a suspicious person attempting to break into a vehicle at a business in the 400 block of West 9th Street. As an officer arrived to the area to investigate, Woodyard’s white Chevy truck left at a high rate of speed towards Poplar Street. Woodyard was stopped in the 800 block of Poplar Street. Officers then learned that Woodyard was not breaking into vehicles but instead having an argument with a girlfriend who was seated in another vehicle. As officers spoke to Woodyard they developed a suspicion that Woodyard was under the influence of alcohol. Woodyard was later placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Wabash County Jail for processing. Afterward, Woodyard was released with a court date.
