SMS/AJH SoftbalL FALLS TO JASPER-GEFF

The SMS/AJH Softball team dropped their second game last night to an experienced Jasper/Geff team. In the first the only batter to get on base was Nora Jones with a double hit between the short stop and left field. The bottom of the first was the roughest for the girls seeing 8 runs scored before Andrews was able to strike out 3 girls. Top of the second was again frustrating for the Lady Rockets going 3 up and 3 down. Bottom of the second saw improvement. First out was made by Lyla Keepes (SS) to Madi Stevens on first. Andrews finished the inning with 2 more strike outs. Score was now 13-0. Top of the third the bats came out hot. Ruby Newkirk was first on base after being hit by the pitcher. She was able to advance with a solid RF hit by Keepes. Kali Walker advanced two runners and clenched a single with a hit to the gap in center right field. Unfortunately all 3 ladies were left on base after solid pitching from Rice for Jasper/Geff. Bottom of the third saw some defensive subbing for the Rockets. Courtney Jones caught a fly ball to RF for the first out. Again Andrews struck out two more batters to close the inning. The Rockets continued to improve allowing only 2 runs (15-0). Top of the 4th Andrews hit a solid grounder to second and was able to get on base. Due to the RBI by Madison Stevens, Andrews would go on to score the only run for the Rockets. Bottom of the 4th more changes were made. Walker came in to pitch and Nora Jones replaced Lauren Fisher at catcher. Walker and Stevens connected for two throw outs at first. A drop third allowed Hinkle to get on base followed by a score when Rice hit a deep center left field ball to end the game with the run rule 16-1. Overall, the Lady Rockets continue to improve each game. The few hits to the outfield were fielded well by Breslin Ligon (RF), Chandler Cusick (CF), Ruby Newkirk (LF), Courtney Jones (RF), Elizabeth Hefner (CF), and Hazel Ernest (LF) to keep players from achieving doubles several times. Also of special mention is Lauren Fisher and Nora Jones who are catching for the very first time. It’s a tough position to play and they have been giving it their all. The SMS/AJH Softball team will be back in action Tuesday August 20th against Cisne at HOME!! Action starts at 4:30 and we’d love to see you there supporting our great team!
