Indianapolis man arrested on multiple charges

On September 21, 2024, at 2:42 p.m. Gibson County Deputy Levi Sims conducted a traffic stop at the 25 Mile Marker of Interstate 69 on a Silver 2021 Chevy Equinox after observing it traveling 100 mph in a 70 mph zone.  Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Sims identified the driver as 30 year old Mekel Carter of Indianapolis.  While speaking with Mr. Carter Deputy Sims detected the odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and began a roadside investigation.  At the conclusion of his investigation he placed Mr. Carter into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, and Neglect of a Dependent. 
 
Assisting Deputy Sims in his investigation were Deputies Quinten Might and Jim Tucker.
 
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
