Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges For Albion Man

On 6/08/24, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Kevin M. Pickering, age 34, of Albion for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle following a traffic stop on a black 2020 Honda near 3rd & Bellmont Street.  The stop was a result of the driver, Kevin Pickering, committing a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code.  During the stop, Ofc. Hopper and K-9 Eleven responded to the scene and conducted a free air narcotic sniff around the exterior of the Honda.  In doing so, Eleven alerted to the odor of narcotics from the driver’s door.  A subsequent search resulted in officers locating a clear bag of suspected methamphetamine, a glass pipe that had been used to ingest suspected narcotics, and a package of hypodermic needles.  Additionally, officers located a pinkish red powder inside a baggie as well as 8 white pills identified as Hydromorphone Hydrochloride, a DEA Schedule II narcotic.  The arresting officer completed a drug field test kit on the suspected methamphetamine, which indicated positive.  The pinkish red powder field tested positive for Fentanyl.  Pickering was taken to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and released on a Notice to Appear.
