Even though there was a slight uptick in the jobs number, Wabash County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in southern Illinois. The state’s department of employment security reports the jobless rate fell to 3.1% in January in Wabash County compared to 2.7% in December and 4.1% in January of ’22. Not only was Wabash County’s 3.1% rate in January the lowest in southern Illinois, but it was also the third lowest in the entire state.
