Mt. Carmel officials are hoping to preserve the building that currently houses the city’s water plant on South Cherry Street. The city is in the process of building a new water plant, but it’s hoped the historic brick structure that has housed the city’s water operations for decades doesn’t have to be torn down. With that mind, Mayor Joe Judge said an application will be submitted for a Rural Innovative Strong Economies grant. The RISE program is designed to stimulate economic activity through a variety of means including job accelerators…  

The city could receive up to $2 million through the RISE program.
