Teen Driver Injured & Ticketed Following Three Vehicle Crash On I-57

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT  

 

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by

Illinois State Police District 12 

  

WHAT:                      Personal Injury Traffic Crash

  

WHERE:                   On the ramp from Fayette Avenue to Interstate 57, milepost 159, near Effingham, Effingham County

 

WHEN:                      April 6, 2022 at approximately 3:25 p.m.

  

VEHICLES:              Unit 1 – 2014 Gray Chevrolet Malibu

 

                                    Unit 2 – 2009 Red Peterbilt Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination

 

                                    Unit 3 – 2010 Orange Peterbilt Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination

                                               

DRIVERS:                 Unit 1 – A 16-year-old female from Shobonier, IL. Transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

                                    Unit 2 – A G Franks, a 58-year-old male from Hayti, MO.

 

                                    Unit 3 – Jarrod Vogel, a 51-year-old male from Pueblo, CO.

PRELIMINARY:      A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling southbound on the ramp from Fayette Avenue to Interstate 57 southbound, milepost 159, behind Unit 3.  Unit 1 attempted to pass Unit 3 as they merged onto Interstate 57 and struck the semi-trailer of Unit 2 that was traveling on Interstate 57 southbound at milepost 159.  Unit 1 lost control, and then struck the semi-trailer of Unit 3.  All Units came to rest on the right shoulder.  The driver of Unit 1 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Both Unit 2 and Unit 3 drivers reported no injuries. 

CHARGES:               Unit 1 driver was cited for No Valid Driver’s License, Improper Lane Usage, and Driver Required to Wear a Seatbelt.

 

 

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
