Borowiak's IGA Property Sold

After years of speculation, the vacant Borowiak’s IGA store at 9th and Walnut Streets has been sold. At tonight’s Mt. Carmel City Council meeting, city clerk Ryan Turner reported that 309 Homes LLC of Morrison, Illinois signed paperwork on Friday to purchase the property that has been vacant for almost three years….

To help the company with rehabilitating the building, the council approved $50,000 to offset the estimated $95,000 cost for asbestos and mold abatement. According to Turner, most of the asbestos is in the tiled floor that will need to be completely torn out to take care of the issue. The $50,000 will come from the city’s TIF fund.
