New AOK Foundation Looks To Bring Imagination Library To Local Kids

Plans are in the works to develop a foundation through the AOK or All Our Kids Network that could result in some big things to help early childhood reading development. Wabash County Health Department administrator Judy Wissel explained the foundation is being called HERO, an acronym for Health Education Resources Opportunities. According to its’ website, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is dedicated to inspire a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age 5. To date, there are almost 2 million kids registered and nearly 175 million books have been gifted through the program. Wissel said the foundation has filed paperwork with the IRS and once approval is received, work will begin on their first project.
