Two Killed In Sunday Crash On I-70 In Cumberland County

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT  

 

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by

Illinois State Police District 12 

  

WHAT:                      Two Vehicle Fatality Traffic Crash   

  

WHERE:                   Interstate 70 westbound near milepost 122, Cumberland County

 

WHEN:                      May 2, 2021 at approximately 6:04 a.m.

  

VEHICLES:              Unit 1- 2015 Gray Ford Truck

                                   

Unit 2- 2020 Blue Freightliner Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination

 

DRIVERS:                 Unit 1- Ethan Angerami, 19-year-old male from Manchester, NH - Deceased

 

                                    Unit 2- Rodney Rice, 56-year-old male from Chillicothe, TX – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.

                                   

PASSENGER:           Unit 1- John Hibbard, 18-year-old male from Libson Falls, ME - Deceased

                                   

PRELIMINARY:      A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling west on Interstate 70 near milepost 122 in Cumberland County. Unit 2 was parked on the right shoulder. The driver of Unit 1 left the roadway to the right, striking the right rear of the trailer being towed by Unit 2. The driver and passenger of Unit 1 were pronounced deceased on scene by the Cumberland County Coroner. The driver of Unit 2 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries. The right lane of the interstate was closed for approximately 7 hours during the crash investigation. This crash is still under investigation and no further information is available.

 

CHARGES:               Unit 2 driver was cited for Improper Parking.

 

 

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
