ISP INVESTIGATES FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12

WHAT:                      Single Unit Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:                   Illinois Route 146 westbound at the Bill Emerson Bridge, Alexander County.

WHEN:                      May 2, 2021 at 2:48 a.m.

VEHICLE:                Unit 1 – Orange 2021 Chevrolet Corvette

DRIVER:                   Unit 1 – Darryl D. Jackson, a 39-year-old male from Cairo, IL –Pronounced deceased.

PASSENGER:           Unit 1 – An unidentified male - Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling west on Illinois Route 146 when left the roadway to the right struck a guardrail and overturned.  The driver of Unit 1 was ejected and pronounced deceased on scene.  The passenger of Unit 1 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) is continuing the investigation. No further information will be disseminated at this time.
