Vincennes man arrested on drug and false informing charges

On June 25, 2020, at 10:57 a.m. Gibson County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Naas conducted a traffic stop on a Black 1994 Dodge 1500 truck in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store located on US 41 and Coal Mine Road. Upon approaching the vehicle the driver identified himself to Deputy Naas and a passenger attempted to identify himself as Gary Tapley. The passenger was unable to produce an identification card so Deputy Naas gathered the passengers identifiers and went back to his police commission to run the driver and passenger through the National Crime Information Center. Upon not being able to get a return on the passenger Deputy Naas requested Fort Branch Police Chief Darrell Parker come to the scene. At that point Deputy Naas began a roadside investigation into the identification of the passenger. During the investigation the driver gave permission to officers to search the vehicle. Upon asking the driver and passenger to step out of the vehicle a pat down for weapons was conducted. During the pat down of the passenger a valid identification card was found on him identifying the passenger as 51-year-old Gregory Tapley of Vincennes. Also found in the waistband of Mr. Tapley was drug paraphernalia and Methamphetamines. Upon running Mr. Tapley through the National Crime Information Center it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant through Knox County.

At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Naas transported Mr. Tapley to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamines, and False Informing. He is being held without bond as well as on the outstanding Knox County Warrant.

The driver of the vehicle was cited and released for a moving violation.
