Cassandra A. Goldman, Wabash County State's Attorney, reports that James V. Breen, a 28-year old Mt. Carmel, Illinois man, was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Circuit Judge Michael J. Valentine in Wabash County Circuit Court.

State's Attorney Goldman advises that the Defendant was charged April 7, 2016 and May 23, 2016 with Possession of Methamphetamine, both Class 3 Felonies. On June 18, 2018, Mr. Breen was placed on Probation- TASC for 24 months. After admitting to a violation of his probation on September 23, 2019, Mr. Breen was sentenced to 4 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, to be followed by one year of mandatory supervised release (parole) in each case. These sentences are to be served concurrent.

FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF OFFENSE:

2016-CF-42:

That on the 6th day of April, 2016, in Wabash County, Illinois the Defendant, JAMES V. BREEN, committed the offense of POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE, in that said Defendant knowingly and unlawfully had in his possession less than 5 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, other than as authorized in the Methamphetamine Control and Community Protection Act, in violation of 720 ILCS 646/60(a). A CLASS 3 FELONY

2016-CF-66:

That on the 20th day of May, 2016, in Wabash County, Illinois the Defendant, JAMES V. BREEN, committed the offense of POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE, in that said Defendant knowingly and unlawfully had in his possession less than 5 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, other than as authorized in the Methamphetamine Control and Community Protection Act, in violation of 720 ILCS 646/60(a). A CLASS 3 FELONY
