4 Semi Crash On I-70 Injures 2

ISP TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT  

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by

Illinois State Police District 12 

  WHAT:                      Personal Injury Crash   

  WHERE:                   On I-70 W/B MP137 (Near Martinsville, IL)

 WHEN:                      09/09/2019, 07:20 p.m.         

  VEHICLES:              UNIT 1 – Blue 2016 Peterbilt truck tractor w/ van semi-trailer

                                    UNIT 2 – White 2016 Freightliner truck tractor w/ van semi-trailer

                                    UNIT 3 -  White 2011 Freightliner truck tractor w/ van semi-trailer                

                                    UNIT 4 – White 2019 International truck tractor w/ van semi-trailer

 

DRIVER:                   UNIT 1- Danielia A. Kimball, 54, Mattoon, IL

                                    UNIT 2 – Eldar Beganovic, 45, Saint Louis, MO

                                    UNIT 3 – Kennedy Kiarie, 42, Cherry Valley, MA

                                    UNIT 4 – Malcolm T. Smith, 28, Lithonia, GA

PASSENGERS:        n/a

 CHARGES:               Unit 1 – Improper Lane Usage

TRANSPORTS:       Unit 1 Driver was transported to Carle Hospital in Champaign, IL by helicopter.  Unit 4 Driver was transported Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.                                                   

PRELIMINARY:  Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 1 was traveling Westbound on I-70 at the location listed above. Unit 1 ran off of the roadway to the left, crossed the median, and side-swiped Unit 2 traveling Eastbound.  Unit 2 overturned off the roadway to the right (south ditch/embankment) where it came to final rest facing Eastbound.  Unit 1 overturned onto the pavement on the Eastbound side facing Northbound with the semi-trailer blocking all Eastbound Lanes.  Unit 3 was traveling Eastbound, swerved to the left to avoid striking Unit 1, crossed the median, Unit 3’s semi-trailer struck the cab of Unit 1 and came to final rest on the Westbound median shoulder facing Eastbound.  Unit 4 was traveling Eastbound, struck Unit 1’s semi-trailer, and came to final rest in the right Eastbound lane crashed against Unit 1’s trailer.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
