There is good news and bad news concerning garbage and brush collection

In the City of Mt. Carmel.     Commissioners gave final approval for a new garbage collection contract for Republic Services at Monday’s meeting. Republic beat the nearest  bidder by some $12 per customer,  however Republic’s low bid still amounted to a 120 thousand dollar increase for the coming year.    That total wipes out the brush collection charge the city adds on your water bill.      City officials indicate the 13 dollar charge per month will need to Increase to $18 or $19 per month to meet the budget.  

The other option would be to stop brush pickup in the city,  which Clerk Rudy Witsman believes would not fulfill the wishes of the citizens. The council will have the second reading and a possible vote on the increase at the next City Council meeting.
