High Speed Race Ends In Arrest Of Grayville Man On Various Charges
On Saturday, July 27th at approximately 1:06 A.M. Wabash County Sheriff's Office deputies were conducting an ACE Patrol (Aggressive Criminal Enforcement) on the west side of Wabash County. Deputy D. Root observed a traffic violation and attempted to stop a Black 1995 Dodge Dakota which failed to do so. The Dodge fled north bound out of Bellmont failing to stop at the intersection of Highway 15 and E 400 Rd. The deputy followed while speeds reached in excess of 96 mph. The deputy observed the driver throw something out the window as it continued north bound. The deputy advised the other unit the an item was thrown from the vehicle.
The vehicle pursuit continued when the dodge turned east bound onto N 1600 Ln. When N 1600 Ln ended the dodge continued down a grassy lane and into a cornfield. Once in the cornfield the dodge stopped. The driver, Shawn Swift, 38 of Grayville was taken into custody. Deputy Bogard and K9 Roy responded to the area where items were believed to be thrown out and recovered certain items of evidence.
Shawn Swift was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants from Wabash, White, and Knox Counties. Subsequently Swift was also charged with unlawful possession of hypodermic syringe, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing justice, driving while revoked, and other traffic related violations. Swift's bond has been set at $2,000 cash.
