Judge Pledges City's Support To Solve Flooding Issues
Don Kensell, representing fellow residents of the Oak Meadow subdivision
in Mt. Carmel, appeared before Mt. Carmel City Council Monday night,
and asked commissioners to take last week’s flooding event there seriously.
Kensell said the recent flooding was the worst in the several years he has lived there. Noting he felt like he was stuck
in a castle surrounded by a moat, Kensall suggested possible causes,
and asked the city to look into enlarging one of the ditches that runs along
property lines there. Mayor Joe Judge promised to walk Greathouse Creek
and the surrounding area, with city officials and try to determine the problems
causing the flooding by the next council meeting. The Mayor did note
last Wednesday’s torrential rain dumped as much as 7 inches in some areas
in only a few hours, and noted the city does not own the ditches in question
near Oak Meadow. Judge said a complete study on the situation will be followed
by a public meeting with ample notice to the residents.
