Terry Bruce Announces Retirement As IECC CEO

Terry Bruce, CEO of the four college system of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges, announced his retirement effective June 30, 2019.

Bruce was first chosen as CEO in March 1996 and has led the colleges since then.

IECC, with Frontier College in Fairfield, Lincoln Trail in Robinson, Olney Central in Olney, and Wabash Valley in Mt. Carmel, has had four leaders.  James Spencer, Harry Smith, Ron Hutkin (briefly) and Bruce.

Bruce’s contract was recently extended to August 2021, but Bruce said, “It is time for me to make a change.  I have been with the District for more than 23 years.  My time here has been professionally and personally fulfilling.  I am grateful to the Board of Trustees for having given me this opportunity.”

IECC Board Chairman Andrew Fischer said, “Terry Bruce has been an outstanding leader for our college district.  His legal expertise, his vast knowledge of this area and our community colleges, as well as his political background, will be missed.”

Bruce was State Senator for 14 years (1971-1985) and U S Congressman for 8 years (1985-1993) in the same areas as the IECC District.  Bruce also serves on the Illinois State Community College Board, where he is vice-chairman.
