Wabash County treasurer Beverly McBride said it’s hard to tell what impact the closing of Shopko will have on the county budget. In response to our report last week, circuit clerk Angie Crum asked McBride at this week’s county board meeting if the loss of sales tax revenue will impact the county budget as Mt. Carmel city officials fear will affect theirs, McBride said the state doesn’t provide a breakdown of which businesses sales tax receipts come from. Another mitigating factor is the fact the county only receives one-quarter of one percent of sales tax receipts while the city gets a full 1%. Shopko is scheduled to close April 7th.
