Mt. Carmel Woman Killed In Two Vehicle Crash On Route 15

ISP DISTRICT 19 TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 19:

WHAT: Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE: Illinois Route 15 at Wabash County Road 850E

WHEN: 03/05/2019, at approximately 2:23pm

VEHICLES: White, 2018, Peterbilt Garbage Truck

White, 2011, Ford F150 Truck

DRIVERS: Derek R. Wells, age 32, of Bridgeport, Illinois (Peterbilt Garbage Truck)

Brenda S. Morehead, age 66, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois (Ford F150 / Deceased)

PASSENGERS: None

CAUSE: Disobeying a Stop Sign

TRANSPORTS: Wells was transported, via Air Evac, to a regional hospital.

ROAD CONDITIONS: Open

PRELIMINARY: According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of the 2018 Peterbilt Garbage Truck, Derek R. Wells, was traveling northbound on Wabash County Road 850E, when he failed to stop at the stop sign located at the intersection of Illinois Route 15. Wells proceeded north through the intersection and struck the driver side of a 2011 Ford F150 truck, driven by Brenda S. Morehead, traveling westbound on Illinois Route 15. Following the impact of the crash, both vehicles came to rest on the north side of Illinois Route 15.

Air Evac transported Wells from the crash scene to a regional hospital. Morehead was pronounced deceased at the crash scene by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Wabash County Sheriff’s Department, Wabash County Coroner’s Office, Wabash General Hospital Ambulance Service, Air Evac, Mt. Carmel Fire Department, Rick’s Towing (Grayville), and Rick’s Towing (Fairfield) assisted ISP District 19 at the crash scene.

CHARGES: Derek R. Wells received citations for Disobeying a Stop Sign and Driving While Ill or Fatigued.

All subjects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
