From the County Board meeting this week:

Assessor Debbie Gittings told county commissioners that her office has received the assessment evaluation from the state, and will soon apply that factor to the 2017 taxes payable in 2018. She also said the final deadline for complaints to the Board of Review has now been set at June 29th.

A 2003 Ford Expedition used by the Wabash County E-M-A has been declared as surplus by the county board. That gives E-M-A director Gerald Brooks the O-K to sell the vehicle for the most he can get out of it, including scrap value. Meanwhile, he has been bidding at vehicle auction sites trying to land a replacement.

Don’t forget – this Saturday is Wabash Ready Day. The event will be held from 9-to-2 at the Mabel Courter Center, and it’s a day to put emergency units on display, including the new Air-Evac helicopter based in Olney. There will be games for the kids, plus food and drinks available, too.

A report issued by Treasurer Beverly McBride shows that her office received $37,743.41 from the state in May, most of it – over 23-thousand – in income tax receipts. McBride also told county commissioners in the report that July 6th is the deadline to pay mobile home taxes to avoid a $25 per month penalty. Already, 38% of those taxes have been paid, amounting to $11,948.12. Also, prepayment of property taxes will be allowed to continue through July 31st. A total of $217,380.02 has come in already, according to McBride.

Wabash County State’s Attorney Cassandra Goldman presented her office’s monthly report to the County Board on Monday. It shows nine misdemeanor and 14 felony cases filed in May, along with four DUI’s, five for careless driving, and 88 traffic cases. Fines imposed during the month exceeded $8,920.93, and restitution collected topped four-thousand dollars $4,081.75.

Wabash County Circuit Clerk Angie Crum said her office collected fines and fees in the amount $37, 417.53 during the month of May.
