Distraction Causes Wayne County Semi Wreck

ISP DISTRICT 19 TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 19:

WHAT: Personal Injury Traffic Crash

WHERE: Wayne Co Road 1245 East, 550 Ft North of 161 Extension

WHEN: 03/05/18 – 9:10 PM

VEHICLES: White, 2006 Freightliner Truck Tractor in combination with a Green, 2003 Hyundai Semi-Trailer

DRIVERS: Michael T. Nosek, Age 50, Rinard, IL PASSENGERS: None CAUSE: Distraction from inside the vehicle

TRANSPORTS: Driver was transported to an area hospital

ROAD CONDITIONS: Open/Clear

PRELIMINARY: According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, Nosek was traveling northbound on Wayne County Road 1245 East, approximately 550 feet north of the 161 Extension when a distraction from inside the vehicle caused him to leave to roadway to the right. The 2006 Freightliner in combination with the 2003 Hyundai semi-trailer drove into a muddy ditch which ultimately caused both units to tip over and come to rest on their passenger sides. Nosek was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash. Nosek was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Bedford Fire Protection District, North Wayne Ambulance, and Rick’s Towing.

CHARGES: Nosek was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
