GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a closure for State Road 65 between Owensville and S.R. 64.

During the most recent rain event, water breached the drainage facilities in the area and flooded the roadway. This caused significant erosion and a failure of the roadway. INDOT maintenance and bridge crews were dispatched to the scene where they immediately closed the road and performed and inspection of the road and bridge in this area. The bridge was deemed structurally safe, however the road will need significant repairs.

At this time crews are mobilizing to make temporary repairs which will allow us to open the road. These are expected to be completed in the upcoming week. Permanent repairs will come at a later date. Until the road re-opens, motorists should use the nearest state roads (SR 168, U.S. 41, and SR 64) as a detour. INDOT urges motorists to stay alert and obey all traffic control devices.

Several roads throughout the Vincennes District are experiencing high water closures. As of this writing at 3 p.m. eastern on Sunday, Feb. 25 the following roads are closed.

SR 70 from SR 37 to SR 66

SR 66 from SR 66/62 (Sulphur) to SR 66/70 (Derby)

SR 66 from SR 237 (Cannelton) to SR 166 (Rocky Point)

SR 66 from SR 166 (Rocky Point) to SR 70 (Derby)

SR 166 from SR 66 (Rocky Point) to the Ohio River

SR 62 from SR145 (Perry county) to SR 54

(Spencer county)

SR 545 from SR 62 ( St.Meinrad, Spencer county) to SR 66 (Troy, Perry county)

SR 66 from SR 545 ( Troy, Perry county) to SR 70 ( Spencer county)

SR 161 for SR 66 (Sandridge) in Spencer County to SR 62 (Put and Take Curve) in Warrick County.
