DAR Hosts Illinois State Regent

The October 23, 2018, meeting of Mt Carmel Chapter DAR convened with a Salad Luncheon at EUM CHURCH, to honor guest ILLINOIS STATE REGENT-GLORIA PEKINS FLATHOM,  

After a delicious lunch at 1PM the meeting was called to order by Regent Mt Carmel Chapter Barbara Lant Easter. Prayer and the Introduction of Madame State Regent Gloria Perkins Flathom,  Pledge, American’s Creed, singing National Anthem, singing of Illinois and The PREAMBLE to the CONSTITUTION of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. 

The President General’s Message. National Defense Message, Constitution Minute, Indian Minute, Flag Minute, Commemorative Events, Women’s Issues Minute, Bicentennial Minute were given. The roll call was answered by- Name one thing you recycled this past month. Minutes of September 18, 2018, DAR meeting read by Recording Secretary- Judy Matsel Coleman and approved.

Treasurer’s Report by Karen Ruth Cochran, Chaplain’s Report by Sara Steckler Caddell, 

The Registrar’s Report 112 members, the sad lost of Mary Kathryn Crow Simpson, one application in Washington DC and accepted the application of  two New members.  

American History report given by Sara Steckler Caddell, Americanism Report by Barbara Lant Easter, Veterans Committee and Veterans 50th Anniversary Committee by Mary Susan Wood. The Mt Carmel Chapter was honored to have guest speaker  ILLINOIS STATE REGENT: GLORIA PERKINS FLATHOM. Regent Flathom gave very informative information about many DAR projects. the main one Bacone Indian School Bus Trip, October 14, 2018, having just returned she had tremendous amount of information as needs of the School.   Replace Bacone College Cafeteria Student Union kitchen equipment, Phase one- Steam Table (completed). Mt Carmel Regent: Barbara Lant Easter and Vice -Regent Suzanne Creek Brugger also made to trip to Bacone Indian School, OK. The Mt Carmel Chapter DAR donated  236 pillow cases made by members. DAR  World Service Day Project of recognizing our First Responder October 11, 2018, cookies baked and delivered to Mt. Carmel Fire Department, Mt Carmel Police Department and Wabash County Sheriff Department by DAR members. Seventy-five Thank You Cards were made  Linda Kepley  and some also signed by DAR members to be given to Veterans on the  HONOR FLIGHT OF SOUTHERN INDIANA , Saturday, November 3, 2018. The HONOR FLIGHT leaves Evansville, Indiana, at 5AM and retuning at  8PM.   The next DAR meeting Tuesday, November 13, at First Mid Bank corner Fourth and Market at 6PM. Audrey Hinderliter will have the program on the Indians of Wabash County. Remember a lot of information about early residents.
