Cynthia Small, 67
Cynthia Small, 67, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 15, 1956, in Kirkwood, Missouri, the daughter of Kenneth Edwin and Regina Marie (Drone) Schimp. She married Jeffrey Small on June 18, 1997, and they have celebrated twenty-seven years focused on their family.
Cindy moved to Mount Carmel from Eldorado, Illinois in 1978. She was a special education teacher for thirty-plus years in School District 348. Cindy took an active role with her students and cared deeply for each one. She was involved in endless activities and hobbies, but most important to her was her family, with her grandchildren being the center of her world. In her spare time, Cindy’s creativeness and talents shined through in her crafting and Stampin’ Up creations. Taking family getaways to Orange Beach was her favorite happy place. Cindy was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose presence on this earth will be dearly missed.
Cindy leaves behind her beloved husband, Jeff; children, Alexia Wilcox and husband Gregg, Clayton Storckman and wife Kelli; grandchildren, Zane and Cade Wilcox, with Cynthia Wrynn Wilcox to arrive soon, August, Scout and Forrest Storckman; brothers, Ken Schimp, Doug (Kelly) Schimp; sisters, Mona (Kim) Edwards, Pam Karns; many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Zwilling officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Cindy’s memory to Safe Haven.
