Daniel Coy Short, 46

Daniel Coy Short, 46, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 21, 1977 in Mt. Carmel, the son of Joy (Short) Treece. He married Shauna Hortin on September 18, 1999 and they had thirty years together.

Coy was a very hard worker at any and every job he tackled. He enjoyed being outdoors, working with his hands, and being a help to others. Coy’s daughter and granddaughters were the center of his world, and the part of his life he was the proudest of. Shantel and the girls always knew they could count on him when they needed some help. He was proud of his role as “Poppy”. Coy was a volunteer with the VFW Military Honor Guard. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Coy leaves behind his daughter, Shantel Graef; two precious granddaughters, Guinevere and Sophia Graef; mother and stepfather, Joy and Frank Treece; sisters, Shambrey Treece, Mellisa (Shad) White, Kassandra (Robert) Redden; friend and former wife, Shauna Short; several loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Coy was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents, Marcella and Tommie Short; step grandparents, Gene and Marietta Treece.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Coy’s memory to Wabash Rally Against Cancer (WRAC) or the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, or may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry St. Mt. Carmel, IL 62863.
