Darlene Allen, 84
Darlene Allen, 84, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 29, 1940, in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Ben and Celia (Dossett) Bump. She married Thomas P. Allen on October 31, 1959, and they celebrated sixty years of marriage until his passing on March 16, 2020.
In her early working years, Darlene was a supervisor at the Mount Carmel Apparel clothing factory for fifteen years. She and her husband, Tom, owned and operated Bumps L.P. Gas, acquiring that business when Darlene’s father retired. Darlene later opened a day-care center in her home and continued it for twenty-nine years. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Darlene” by her day care kids and enjoyed keeping up with them even into adulthood. Darlene enjoyed traveling with Tom, riding their motorcycle, spending an occasional weekend on the riverboat, and camping at Conservation Lake. Darlene’s favorite thing to do was cooking large meals for her family and friends. During the weekends they spent camping, she made some great meals which she generously shared with their neighboring camping friends. Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Darlene leaves behind her daughters, Tammy (Brad Arhelger) Lang, Stephanie Banks; grandchildren, Johnny Joe (Kyleigh Reavill) Lang, Mandy Lang, Lacie (Jason) Perry, Shaleigha (Keith) Kline, Tori (Wyatt) Sowder, Thomas (Sarah Kate) Allen III, Zachary Allen; great-grandchildren, Hailey Lang, Kolton Joe Lang, Toby JoeLang, Dalton Lang, Preston Perry, Jaz Reavill, Jersey Smith; sisters, Debbie (Phillip) Cross, DeeDee (Danny) Dillinger, Darnell (Floyd) Treece; sister-in-law, Rose Bump, many loved nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Thomas Allen II; brother, Dale Bump.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitationfrom 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2024,in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2024, with Brother Brandon Hodgson officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery where Darlene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and son.
Memorial contributions may be made in Darlene’s memoryto Gospel Kingdom Church.
