Robert E. “Bob” Brewer, 85

Robert E. “Bob” Brewer, 85, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away October 30, 2024, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois with Father Robert Zwilling officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with military rights performed by the Mt. Carmel Honor Guard.

Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois on November 4, 2024, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately following at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. 

Memorials may be made to Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies in Bob’s memory. Envelopes will be available at St. Mary’s Catholic Church during funeral service.

Bob was born to the late Richard and Anna Louise (Ramsey) Brewer on July 29, 1939, in Mt. Carmel. He attended Wabash Valley College and then went on to Lockyear Business College and graduated with an associate’s degree.

He married Barbara J. Jeffers on June 9, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and to this union 3 children were born: Sheri (Tim) Carpenter, Christina (Eric) More, and Bradley (Christy) Brewer.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Brewer; daughters, Sheri (Tim) Carpenter, Christina (Eric) More, and son, Bradley (Christy) Brewer; sister Joyce Young; brother-in-law, Don Dunkel; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Jeffers; grandchildren, Lauren (Philip) Hocking, Steven (Sarah) Zimmer, Derek (Cassie) Zimmer, Ashley More, Breanna More, Taryn (Luke) Morgan, Lexi Brewer, and Logan Brewer as well as great-grandchildren, Isaac, Eli, Benjamin Hocking, and Blake and Zoey Zimmer.

Bob proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Lake Champlain CVS39 from 1961-1963. After returning to Mt. Carmel, he worked for Snap-On Tools as an industrial engineer for 24 years until his retirement in 2000.

He loved street rodding, especially Corvettes and Motorcycles and enjoyed doing car shows.

Bob and his wife resided and enjoyed winters in Florida for 19 years and made many special friends there.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, and sister, Patti Dunkel.
