Joanne Deputy, 93, from Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023, at her residence.

Services will be held, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She will be buried beside her beloved husband at Highland Memorial Cemetery after the service. There will be a visitation before the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Joanne was born December 20, 1930, the daughter of Theron and Wilma (Waters) Ferguson in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. On January 12, 1950, she married Nile S. Deputy. To this union two children were born Stephen Deputy (Dec’d) and Elaine Blum of Austin, Texas. In addition to her daughter Elaine and her husband Lee Blum, also surviving are one daughter in law Lynn Deputy of Evansville, Indiana, four grandchildren, Natalie Blum, Ryan Blum, Matthew Deputy and Brian Deputy; five great grandchildren, Colten Blum, Case Blum, Nathan Deputy, Dylan Deputy and Tyler Greenwell; and one great, great grandchild, Crew Greenwell. Preceding Joanne in death were her parents, husband and son, Stephen.

Joanne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Until the passing of her beloved Nile, she always made a point of attending church with him. Joanne enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and planting incredible flowers and tomatoes. She was a fantastic cook, making feasts for the holidays and fattening everyone up with her delicious desserts. Joanne loved her dog. She befriended many dogs and a squirrel that would come to her sliding glass door for handouts when she and Nile lived on Sixth Street. No matter what--Joanne never missed her weekly hair appointment! She was a great mom, grandmother and friend, and will be deeply missed by all she touched.
