Patricia Hanzel, 74

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Patricia Hanzel, 74, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, on August 10, 2023, at Wabash General Hospital.

There will be a small gathering, in celebration of Patti’s life, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 512 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Patricia was born to the late Victor and Eva (Delduca) Williams on December 16, 1948, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She married F. Thomas Hanzel on March 22, 1969, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. To this union three children were born: Dawn Michelle Hanzel of Lexington, Kentucky, Shawna Kristin Turpin and husband Eddie of Linton, Indiana, and Thomas Eric Hanzel and wife Kristi of Clayton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Christian, Jordan, Marissa, Noah and Jonah Ricketts, Haley, Taylor, Isabella (Belle) and Brooklyn Hanzel; great grandchildren, Remington Drake and Warren Thomas; step-grandchildren, Jesika, Damian, Taryn and Cameron Turpin; step-great grandchildren, Ayva and Hadlei; and brothers, Jimmy Williams and Eddie Williams.

Preceding her in death are her parents and husband.

Patti served as an Ordained Minister and worked on the administration side of childcare. Patti was a lover of the theater and starred in many plays at the Brubeck Arts Center, Wabash Valley College. She was a very creative artist, loved to sew, quilt and was an avid fan of all things in arts and crafts. Patti was an enthusiastic collector of anything showing her favorite animal, the sheep. The most important parts of her life were devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family.

Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her passion and Memaw touched each of their lives in a great way. She loved the Lord and wanted everyone to know. She answered the phone saying “Hello, Jesus loves you.” But, if you ever called and got the answering machine, she would end each message saying, “And remember, Jesus loves you, whoever you are.”

Her spunkiness, fire and love for life will be greatly missed by her loving family and close friends. Although she is no longer here on earth, we take great comfort in knowing she is where she has always longed to be, in the arms of our Heavenly Father and her loving husband, who greeted her at the gates of heaven.
