Mary Ruth Kight, 76

Mary Ruth Kight, 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at home. She was born on December 20, 1945 in Raleigh, Illinois, the daughter of Fay and Alma (Jones) Massey. Mary married Rudy Kight on November 20, 1976 and together they enjoyed forty-four years of marriage centered on their family before his passing on November 15, 2020.

Mary will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the happiest when she was able to support the grandchildren in their various sporting events and school activities. She also loved to tell stories to her grandchildren and would elaborate with each visit, continuing where she left off. Mary worked for the Edward’s County School District for over thirty-five years as a third-grade teacher. She was artistic and very creative. In her free time, Mary enjoyed being outdoors, fishing with her husband and family. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. Mary was a member of the Free Methodist Church and loved taking trips with her church family. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Mary will be remembered by her son, Brandon Kight and wife Jill; grandchildren, Blake, Dirk, Asher, Claira, Judah and Finley Kight; two brothers, Ted Massey and Henry Massey; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Joe Massey and Jack Massey.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Allendale Cemetery where Mary will be laid to rest by her beloved husband, Rudy Kight.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Free Methodist Church. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
